Where to buy trail signs?
07/08/14 at 1:28pm
Print Post
Hello All,

Just wanted to get some suggestions on where to buy trail signs for our work out at Riverwalk.  We are specifically looking for signs that say "Advanced Structure Ahead" or something similar, like what they have at Whitewater.  Their's are yellow signs with black text.  Can anyone suggest where to buy these signs?

Thanks,

Justin

I think standard procedure is to label sections as "This ain't Sherman", but if you can't find any signs for that I think you could stack up some logs so that only able riders can access the trail.

not sure where to buy them, but you're easiest option would be to maybe print something off and laminate it to protect it from weather?

i have also seen at places like wal mart where u can buy stickers of different letters and maybe you could spell it out like that on a more stable sign thing.   another possibility depending how aurtistic u are is use a woodburner or seomthing and etch it into trees?

Go to a local sign shop and order them.  We typically use 6X6 inch square aluminum sign.  It's about 1/16" thick and white on one side.  You will have to have the decals (arrows, difficulty ratings, names) made as well.  We use a reflective 3M material for our red arrows and the difficulty ratings (green circles, blue squares, black diamonds) and regular black vinyl for the lettering.  You can order the blanks online as well.

Dont cheap out. Use metal. Otherwise you will have to re-sign after every time school lets out. Kids tear em down.

Use reflective 3m vinyl. They show up at night and have a long life and are pretty uv restiant. Used to work with it all the time. Heat up the signs or vinyl and it sticks really well.

If you are looking to put signage on the trail, I recommend you include informational ones as well.  Example

2 things if a trail is regularly ridden your best off leaving the leaves, they turn into loam and help put some life back into the soil and cut back on weeds, and erosion in the fall and winter months.  second I would recommend using either safety screws or one way screw like you see on bathroom dividers it'll help cut down on the potential of people messing with your signs. you can get them at any local hardware store and will only cost a little more than the run of the mill hardware.

I totally disagree with on that point.  My experience of doing that at several different trails results in the opposite.  Leaving the leaves clogs drains and as a result causes berms and muddy areas that require significant clearing in the early Spring.  The only good thing leaves may do in the winter is to act like a blanket/barrier between tires and the mud.

Hey, I'm allowed to respectfully disagree with anyone on here. Wink  Lucky for me I have years of experience to back up what I say with facts. Smiley  I'm glad to show anyone around Fisher and explain to them the pros and cons of many styles of "trail work".  Smiley  If the truth hurts than the facts will do some serious damage! Shocked

There was a time when disagreeing, truth and facts was looked down upon.  I am glad to see times are changing.
