Saw this on my ride home today.

100% of the text that I could see was pure white and was barely visible against the paint.

Pineville seems to have some nice stuff.  They must generate a lot of revenue from the mall or something.

I was talking to some folks at work about this car this morning and they said Pineville cops have quite a reputation for being super strict and will pull you over for anything, so perhaps they get a lot of ticket revenue.  I haven't had any run-ins with them thankfully.

Its ticket revenue primarily. The area around 74/485 and 51/74 has been one big speed trap as long as I can remember. I know a few guys who have done ride alongs for CJ classes and some pre-BLET stuff with the Pineville PD and almost every one of them has said something about sitting along 74 or in that area for a few hours each day/night.

I still have not figured out how we can get window tint tickets or fail inspection for it but the pojo can rock limo tint. I totally understand the reasons behind it on a K9 unit, but there are more and more standard patrol cars popping up with tint much darker than the legal 35% like the car pictured.

Oh and if any of you drive pickup trucks and pull a trailer, keep an eye out for the NCHP Tahoe's. Almost all of them carry portable scales and they will not hesitate to pull you in that area and weigh you to see if you exceed your tagged limit or even dip your tank if you're in a diesel. Thats another popular move in that area around Pineville. I got weighed and dipped going to Uwharrie with my last buggy in tow one morning.

It is about the revenue no doubt. Hope they don't do like Texas did several years ago. Highway Patrol siezed a yellow Corvette. Followed the law and put the outline of the State of Texas on the door in light grey. Put a trooper and radar in it. Trooper even had a blond wig. He cleaned up. Another time they used a siezed motor home on the side of the road with radar and troopers down the road a bit. Ouch!

That would be our patrol Lieutenant, it is a "ghost" car where the writing and stripes are only visible real good when the light hits it, shows up great at night.  As far as revenue is concerned, we do get a lot from the mall and you also have to remember that most all of Pineville is businesses.  Also as for the tint, it is very dark, both of our unmarked Chargers are also, I'm not sure how we go about it but I'm sure there is a provision in the law for police vehicles just as there is for limo's.  And for the strict part, it just depends on the officer, our traffic guys stop for just about anything, the main thing is don't speed on Main Street.  We don't work 485 too much and usually leave that to the troopers although we have been known to work it in the past Smiley  Not sure where 74 comes through Pineville unless you are referring to 51 but we don't work anything on Hwy 74, out of our jurisdiction, our town is only about 5 sq miles.  Hope this helps and I'll let the LT know to slow down, haha!!

I saw that quite regularly in Boston when I lived in MA; you'd often see a plainclothes Camaro, Mustang, or F-150, and I once even saw a Dodge Nitro with lights barely visible in the windows.

He was fine.  The pic is a small section of the video from my GoPro on my ride home from work.  He was passing at a safe distance and reasonable speed Smiley

THIS!

I just bought a truck, and it was a BIG deal to make sure my tag was weighted enough. I was warned repeatedly that this has become a big sticking point with NCHP. I think I paid the same for my weighted tag as I did for a vanity plate, so there's no point in skimping.

Help me out here please. Tagged weight limit and dipping my diesel???. What is this you speak of? I drive a diesel and tow a trailer. What do I need to know or where can I find out if I am in compliance? Thanks.

I believe a Weighted tag is required for any vehicle weighing 6000 pounds or more in NC.  The more weight you register your tag for the more it cost.  It should be on the registration the weight it is tagged for.  This would need to be at least or more than the total weight of your truck, trailer, and anything in it.

Dipping the tank is to check to see if you have any off road fuel in it.  There is on road fuel like what you get at the gas station which is amber in color and off road fuel that is the same stuff died red.  The difference is that the off road fuel is not road taxed.  You don't want to get caught with that in your tank.

Ok, thanks. This is for trucks only I suppose. I have a diesel SUV, so weight has never come up when registering. This is the second forum in 2 weeks where I read about the NCHP weighing trailers, so I thought I better learn more. I tow well below the weight limit of the trailer too. Not planning on fueling up with off-road diesel either....so I should be good.

Correct. Any SUV, can pull whatever weight you want and not have to have a weighted tag, diesel or not. Considering you have a diesel SUV I am guessing Excursion or older Suburban. But for those of you who own an Avalanche, be careful. I have heard mixed reviews on how that is classified because its an SUV with a truck bed.

A good read from NCSportsman a few years ago. Almost all of the standards and numbers referenced are still the same today AFAIK.

Short and sweet...any truck/trailer/load combo that weighs a combined 6,999 lbs or more needs a weighted tag. You can pull any combo that weighs less than 26,001 on your standard issued NCDL. If you are in the least bit curious, run it across a set of scales sometime. The local dump or salvage yards usually do it for free even if you don't have anything to bring in. Or stop at one of the highway truckstops with a scale. I guarantee the cost to have it weighed is going to be cheaper than the overweight ticket.

Two more points, even if you are ok with the weight limits make sure you are also connected properly and have what ever you are towing secured. If you are traveling out of state check their regulations also, nothing ruins a vacation more than an accident or a ticket(s). If you are towing and get pulled over odds are you will have more than one violation.

Dunno about Pineville, but Matthews PD has a sense of humor. Sped up to run a yellow light on 51, looked over and saw a cruiser, smacked the brakes a bit but hesitated because I knew it would put me in the middle of the intersection, and had to speed up again. Of course, I got pulled over.

When the cop approached me, he was pretty much laughing about what I had done. So I told him I was just trying to keep up with the flow of traffic and motioned to the empty street (it was pretty late). He said, "there wasn't anybody in front of you." And I said, "I know officer, that's how far ahead of me they are."

He let me go.

  Huh

Ticket revenue does not go to the law enforcement agency, nor do any fees from towing.

This morning on my ride into to work I heard a loudspeaker behind me, which at first made me nervous because I thought it was a dumb redneck about to harass me, but then it registered that what I heard was "looking good, my man, looking good" and this very same white-on-white Charger passed me.  Gave me a good laugh this morning!
