Opinions on my tires

Getting everything in order to swap over to tubeless tires.  I picked up a Nobby Nic 29x2.35 rrom Mike(mlo) on the board and I've got a Ardent on the way.  What are yalls opinions on which one should be my front/rear tire.  I've read that the NN doesn't like to be slid around on the back tire(which I like to do) so I might put the ardent in the rear and the NN in the front.  Pros/Cons of this?

I'm running this exact combo in the 26" versions. I run the NN on the front and the ardent on the rear. For me personally the NN instills more confidence on the front then the ardent does. The ardent tends to have a little vague feeling in the transition from center knobs to sides knobs. On the back this vagueness isn't a big deal because I don't mind the rear drifting a little bit. If you do decide to run the NN on the front experiment with running it in reverse before you finally set them up tubeless. I run my NN in reverse and actually like it better.

how wide is the ardent you ordered?  if it's as wide as the NN you have then I would say neither should be your rear tire.

Sager-the ardent is 2.25" wide.  Why would you say that neither should be my back tire?

Thanks for your input Tstroupe.  I've read that you can run the NN backwards and it will work just as well if not better.

I think typically you just don't want a bigger back tire then front tire and the 2.4 ardent is a big tire. The 2.25 ardent compliments the 2.35 NN very well size wise.

With fat bikes getting popular this conventional thought may disappear, but the thought is you want a wide front tire mainly for traction in the corners.  You need less in the back.

Typically you want the more aggressive tire in the front. While selecting you also need to consider tire width (as mentioned above). You want the front tire to hold the line you've chosen, if the rear slides a bit it's ok as it can be controlled. However if your back tire holds the line and the front wash's out, hopefully some one catches it and posts it on u-tube. An other item is air pressure, there have been a lot of posts here over the years as to recommended pressures, you will need to find what works best for you, everyone does not use the same air pressure for the same tire, your riding style will can make a big difference in what pressure works best for you.

I've read the same thing about the larger tire up front for traction and cornering. So that's what I'll end up running, the NN up front amd the ardent in the rear. Just waiting on the ardent and the Stan's kit in the mail.

As far as air pressure goes, what would be a good psi to run?  I'm 5'11, 220(and dropping fast!). Any recommendations?

I tend to run them both at 28-30, but Sager's right, if one of them has to have lower pressure it should be the front. I wouldn't go below 25 unless you want to be dealing with pinch flats all the time (especially at 220). I'm 180-190 and I get them below 25.

Note the Stans kit. He's going tubeless.

I am going tubeless because of all the pinch flats that I had, I was running them around 35lbs in the rear and was still pinch flatting them.  Thanks for the recommendations guys.
