Too true -- the only animals I see regularly are deer because they are so big. Well, deer and squirrels as the squirrels can be noisy through the fallen leaves.

I stopped a couple of weeks ago just after that uphill jump on the main loop to check a message on my phone and saw a good sized owl just staring at me from a tree branch. I'd have never seen it if I didn't stop. It makes me wonder what kind of wildlife I ride right by without noticing.

Turtles, I see a lot of turtles.  They are more rude than the kitted out XC clans when passing.

I've seen turkeys at Anne Springs.  One ran along beside me on the prairie loop.  Was a little disconcerting because it looks nasty, had a sharp beak and could run fast.

I think even cooler than the white squirrel and the copperheads is the brown/grey owl that lives near the lake loop.  He's pretty active even in the morning time.

Oh yeah he/she is FREAKY

Fun Fact: In native american culture owls are omens / harbingers of death. If you see one (or if it follows you), it's likely your own.

Good luck on the jumps lads. Good luck on the jumps.

Sucks for me.  Seen him at least 3 times.  Twice recently.

Let's just hope the two aforementioned inhabitants don't cross paths...

I saw an emu running down the trail up at Wilson's once. That was pretty surreal.

Saw the little guy this morning after the second cross over on the main loop.  He was on the left, right after the little creek drop in with all the braking bumps.

Saw a brown squirrel at Renni today. But that's not what I wanted to say -

This thread jinxed me. I've lived at my current location for 8 years and never saw a copperhead. Until this thread came about.

Thursday my wife found one in the driveway when I wasn't home, right near where I park my car (she's pretty bad@$$). And then today, cutting the grass, I came upon another one down near the edge of the property.

Not sure what the legality is regarding "pest control" and copperheads. So let's just say that, sadly, both of them decided to kill themselves shortly after they were discovered.

Copperheads on the trails - no problem. Copperheads where my small children play in the yard? Different story.

I'm not saying I kill them, but things get killed ya know?

Anyway, thanks for bringing it up and ruining a good thing I had going.

My rule is that any creature on my property, or close to it, that can kill is getting snuffed out.  Otherwise, I leave it be.

Jinxed me too. I skid to a stop 12 inches from a fat copperhead on the Prairie loop at asg this morning. Lying across the entire trail.  Looked at me as I back pedalled and opened its mouth.  Thankfully he was a little slow this morning.

Saw the white squirrel today on my ride at 5:00 pm, near the first rock garden at mile 3 of the main loop.  Only the second time riding Sherman and got to see the legendary white squirrel, was thinking of stopping and taking a picture, but just decided not too.  Too cool!!!!

OK, googled White Squirrel, does anyone know if it is an Albino or a White Morph one?  Didn't get to see the eyes to see if they were pink or normal dark.  Guess the Albino's are rare and just wanted to see if we had a rare one out there.  Really interesting reading on them anyway.

Can say there were a lot of squirrels out today, seemed every corner there were all of his friends, must be nut finding week!

It's a white morph. I've got within 4 feet of him before. He is amazingly calm for a squirrel.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.
