Jump practice?

I'm looking for some place to get some practice time on jumps. I'm not a super advanced rider but I'd like to find some place that I can "safely" work on my air skills. I'm just looking to be able to add a little more speed and style to my "AM" trail riding.

I noticed most decent features on trails tend to be in tighter sections that would make recovering a little sketchy if I got off line.

I like the tower 99 section at wwc and typically run that loop 4-5 times every time I go out. I just like how its in the open and it strings together a few jumps in a nice dh section.

Are there any other trails, locally, that have something similar?

Poston has the best jumps in the Charlotte area though maybe a little bigger than you are looking for.

I ride poston. It's not the size of the jumps but the placement. most all of the landings are very narrow. That newer section flagged "most difficult" is what I'm talking about. That first kicker is real close to a tree, and the landing is a bunch of off camber roots.

I'd love to hit a section of trail similar to that without the tree's, or simply a less narrow trail allowing for some error.

The creek gap isnt bad, but Im worried about the tree's on the other side. The canyon gap is pretty sick. I'd skip that regardless off the surroundings.

We have a nice progression jump area at the Signal Hill Pump Track in Statesville.  Currently we have a beginner line of 4 tables and small doubles as well as an advanced line with larger doubles.  They are all in an open field so no trees to worry about  Wink

The pump track is also another great tool for adding speed and style to you trail riding.  There are many options for jumping the rollers on the pump track as well if you can carry the speed.

I was thinking the BMX track in rock hill would be perfect for this, but I'm not sure if they will allow mountain bikes...yet.

I second this.  That section near the front with the little step down, step up, table and then the multiple gap jumps (in that order) is pretty progressive.  When I mean progressive I mean you should master them in order in which you hit them on the trail.

It has been a while and I know they are always working on them at BYT, but I remember there being multiple options on the size of the last gap jump.

You also have the line that has the "Cannons" in it at BYT.

I havent been to RockHill BMX, but jumping BMX style jumps is going to be very different than trail jumps.  Dont get me wrong if you could get comfortable on that BMX track you'd be pretty set.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will try to get out to BYT and see what it has to offer. I think a lot of my progression is just going to come down to taking that leap of faith in the first place.

The "road gap" jump that comes down from the baseball fields is less consquential, it's a decent gap but the lander is kinda eroded so it doesn't really matter if you come up a little short. Hit it fast.

Also agree with Rob, the BYT jump line (not far from the start of the trail to the right) would be good for practice. The "math gap" at the end of the line rides smooth but looks scary, again you need to hit it fast. The gap to the right of it is good to practice on until you are ready for the big one.
