NO-Pro!?

Extremely disappointed and frustrated with Go-Pro. In light of user complaints, bought and formatted new recommended SD card before epic MTB trip. Still lost/corrupted all but 2 of 40 video clips. Go-Pro support is worthless...denied the issue even exists: "We haven't heard of any customers losing their files" - direct quote! (just check shear volume of blogs!) Couple of data recovery software attempts couldn't retrieve the files.

-Anybody have recommendations for recovering Go-Pro videos?

*Look to "Marketplace" soon for GoPro Hero3 and batch of accessories for sale!

Go-Pro can go.....

I have a hero 3+ black edition and I haven't yet experienced this issue.

Is the firmware on your camera up to date?

do you still have the original files on the sd card?

I know someone who had a similar issue because the camera battery died while recording and so the file wasn't properly closed and he was able to recover it.

One more question so that I don't start suggesting things that you've already tried, what software have you tried to open the files with so far?

I have heard of file corruption if you use the '1 button on/record' method, but other than that, no.

Are the files just corrupt? If so I would think there should be some software to recover it. Sounds like a encoding/decoding issue. Is this a recurring or one time thing?

FWIW I have a Hero3 and have had no problems whatsoever. I am using a cheap Sandisk 32gb card.

Yep. Camera was updated just prior to trip. (I try to do that periodically anyway)

Have not had issue before. (but search the net and will see that is same for all the others who have this unfortunate experience) Seems it happens from crashes, card ejections, and all sorts of rather 'normal' actions/conditions.
-If it hasn't happened to your GoPro yet....cross your fingers.

Tried Recuva and Wondershare.
A company called LC Technology offered to have me send them the card and for a minimum of $275 'plus' a fee for any files actually recovered: fees varied by files size an complexity. (ouch)

I suspect the files are still on the disk. Have not initiated any other actions other than searching the disk and running the recovery software (which initially looks like all it does is search for files of various types - that you then opt to recover. Searches found 'nothing' - including NOT finding the 2 videos that I can see with regular search)

I am a 'point & shoot' guy. That is why I bought the GoPro. It has served me well, to this point.
Afraid it is the point of no return/recovery.

If there is a relatively easy way to recover the files.....WTF doesn't GoPro Support provide that guidance!?
-"We've never heard of this happening..." (BFS!!!)
-"Just go try some data recovery software...." (No SS - Thanks for FN nuthin!)

That is not the tact of good customer service. (THAT is my REAL beef with GoPro)

If you had no problems with your previous card, I would resort back to using it. Sounds like it could be a problem with the card also as I have heard of people getting bad cards. Not to mention your problem arose after buying a new card.

If the 38 video files do not show up on the card, how do you know it recorded them? I only ask this because I thought I hit the record button once, only to find out later I had not recorded a single thing. Were you able to preview and confirm any of the files before getting home and finding out they were missing?

There are a few good recovery tools out there, "cardrecoverypro.com" is one.
If the files are there good, bad or deleted their software will see them and you can recover them.

Your memories of the runs are probably much more bad@ss then the actual video anyway.   Grin Cool

I have a GoPro Hero and have never had this specific issue.

thanks all

KNOW the files were recorded, as we watched them the nights before last rides (final 2 clips)

Could be bad card. (Just seems strange for it to work fine for 5 days - then 'corrupt')

Still no excuse for GoPro lack of service.

Will try new card, new update - and go do some test sessions.

If you have an SD card reader I would throw the SD card in there and use either Windows explorer or Finder(if you're using mac) and look at the contents of the card you should be able to find the .mp4 files on there. If you find them that is great. you'll probably at least be able to get most of them back. but if you only see the last 2 that you wrote about then somehow the others probably got deleted or the card got formatted between when the other videos and those last two where shot. if you find them I would try opening them with VLC media player, sometimes it will open and play files that other players can't. From there I think you can convert them to another format with VLC or re-save them in the same format.
