Sad to see the trees go.  Just when you know what to anticipate... maybe we can use the wood to fix the bridges Smiley

Kinda curious as to why someone can cut a root at Fisher Farm and the world ends while there can be wholesale destruction of trees as Signal Hill and it goes unnoticed.

For those who insist on dumbing down every trail in the area, please take a minute that you wasted cutting trees and check out this link: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I spent 13 years building trail at Lake Norman and love that place but not every trail needs to be that style, variety is good.  If you want a nice easy flowing trail, go to LNSP and leave Signal Hill alone.

I live in Salisbury  and ride Signal Hill (40 minute drive) a few times a year. Yeah, I could go a little further to ride at Lake Norman or ride other trails within a 60 minute drive, which I do often.  But I enjoy riding there from time to time, because it's different and I enjoy the innovative features. I find it a refreshing trail. I APPRECIATE the work done on the trail.   DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING YOU GUYS ARE DOING THERE.

I have never rode a trail that I did not enjoy, we are lucky to have so many trail choices in this area.  If you don't like a trail, ride somewhere else or build your own to your personal specifications. You will never hear me complain about trails or "changes to better suit MY personal preferences"......I leave those decisions to the trail coordinators. There are often reasons, known by coordinators, that trail features are like they are (or lack of advanced features) that the average biker is not aware of. I think a person should perform 20 documented hours of trail maintenance, verified by trail coordinators, before making suggestions for changes....pay your dues and put some skin in the game.  In some situations, it may be  more feasible to contact the trail coordinator directly/email etc.

Gene, I doubt the trees were taken out by the Trail Coordinator since they left stumps at every one. I would at least hope that the TC wouldnt do that since they are pedal high.

I've got a jackass @ Sherman doing the same thing. Pedal catchers everywhere.

Guess you must have missed the part about putting 13 years in at the state park as trail coordinator Wink

I like Signal Hill because I can ride from the shop and it is different from most of the other local trails.  It is poorly laid out, cut up, a b***h to maintain, no flow, pump track, rickety obstacles........the trail you don't take home to momma.  LNSP is all spiffed up and pretty and would be a great trail to show momma,  I am HUGELY proud of what we accomplished out there.  What I don't want is all the trails to be the same.  Someone has been out there cutting trees down that haven't been a problem for a decade or more.  One individual decided they no longer wanted to turn their handlebars 5 degrees to the right and took out a saw a lopped down a dozen trees or so.  They posed no danger but likely made their Strava time 10 seconds slower.  As a bonus, they were cut off so you can catch your pedal on them which ironically does make them dangerous.  It is a tough trail to maintain and it would have been great if they took the time to cut back some undergrowth, or better yet, do some work on the bridges that are literally rotting into the ground.  That would have made for a better/safer trail experience for everyone!

Take a minute and read the linked article by Vernon Felton.  He gets paid to write and says it 100x for eloquently than I can.

Sorry if my post above was not clear and sounded like I was saying the TC possibly was responsible for the cut trees. I did not intend for it to be interpreted like that. I know the TC there would not do that.  I was wondering if they were cut with an ax or sawed.

First Flight: 1. I know you have put in a tremendous amount of time and work at LNSP.  2. I also read the article a couple of days ago, good article.   I WAS NOT REFERENCING YOU but the many people that ride a trail one or two times and want everyone to change the trail to their liking, without performing any work themselves.

They were cut with a chainsaw.

Contrary to you Strava haters that think everytime a trail is modidfied it is by a racer, I find most modifications come from weekend warrior novice type riders  nuertering the trail. Most faster riders rarely want to get off thier bike to do anything, let alone come out and do work on a trail

Pretty much every trail needs this sign. I first encountered it at Fisher and took its advice.

it's another user group that has access to do maintenance on the trail. I don't know what trees were cut. But if the trees and branches blocked the site of the disc course, they might have taken out the trees

Gotcha.  These trees had nothing to do with the disc golf course.
