With the approval of the flagged trail we can now start clearing corridor. We will meet in the parking area at Bigleaf on Nov 2 at 8am (dont forget daylights savings)  Make sure to have bright clothing since it is hunting season as well as water, snacks and any boots to tromp around in the woods for a couple hours.  Tools will be provided.

The address to the entrance of the Solid Waste Facility, it is 354 Twin Oaks Rd, Statesville, NC 28625

If anyone is up in the Statesville/Mooresville area and would like to help/volunteer, this is a perfect opportunity to do so!  It's a long road to building trail with just 3 people a day!

Just received word that we officially have an address for the park, 341 Twin Oaks Road It does not show up in exact in that there Google Maps or anything yet but we do have it! The county is also going put in a gravel "constuction" parking area for us very soon as well in the same place we are currently parking so its not just grass.

We havn't measured out anything on length. I imagine it will be a 4-6 mile trail when finished but dont want to get into the game of "lets squeeze some more trail in to get length."

The trail will be multi-use (bike/ped) but mainly bike. We are trying to extend the local greenway to connect to the trail which will open the ability to start at Big Leaf and ride part/all of the trail and then hop on the the greenway and ride 2 miles over to Signal Hill for a  lap or two and back to Big Leaf.  There is a large open space in the middle of the property that we (I am also on the Parks and Rec Advisory Commitee) are looking at options for but mainly focused on the trail and greenway connection right now.

We will be back out this Saturday starting at 7 a.m (11/15/14).  We will leave pin flag bread crumbs if you come out a little later, just follow them out. The forecast says it will be chilly so bring shedable layer since it heats quickly with the work out there.  Bright layers are also a big plus since there are a few deer stands out in the area on neighboring property, I also have safety vests from the county if you would rather wear one of those.

If you have a pair of loppers, please bring them as well, we were just about at our max yesterday.
