Cycleops Trainer - can your wheels be too big?

Ok, as the title goes... I put a big set of slicks on my 29er (Schwable Big Apples).  They are pratically as big as my 2.3/2.4 tires... when mounted onto the cycleops, the tire is basically sitting on the base of the Trainer/touching (with some resistance) on the base of the trainer so it won't even spin.  Is that possible or am I mounting it incorrectly into the trainer?

I've got an older cycleops trainer. My 29 won't fit. I can only use the 26 MTB or road bike on it. At least in my case the trainer would have to be taller and the resistance wheel would have have more adjustment to back it out further.

Riding an mtb on a trainer was always uncomfortable for me anyways. Roadie is much better suited.
