Good 29er tires for the fall/winter??

Hello everyone,

My Ikon's are getting pretty worn out and aren't a very suitable tread for non-summertime conditions anyway. I'm looking for some replacements and wanted to see what people are running around here to cut through the fall leaves. I ride pretty aggressively so they'll need a bit of bite in the corners, I'm on a hardtail so volume is a plus, and I also plan on doing a little racing so they shouldn't be ridiculously heavy. Tough ask I know, but there has to be a good compromise out there.

Thanks for the help!

I've got a Purgatory Control 29x2.4 and a WTB Stout 29x2.3 hanging in the garage if you're interested.  Both great winter tires.

I have heard of a lot of people running winter tires. I tend to run the same tires year round w/o problem both around here and in Pisgah. What are people getting after with summer winter tires. Not to be a smart a$$ but you can't ride when it's wet around here anyway so I don't see the point in burlying up on tire over the winter months.

Than being said I like 2.4 Ardents on my 29'er hardtail.

I think we need to make a sticky thread for Tire arguments Wink

+1

Ardents all the way... If you want a "winter" tire I suggest running something stupid heavy with crazy rolling resistance. That way when spring rolls around and you swap back to lighter, faster tires you'll be better for it... I run High Roller II's exo/TR/3c/maxterra/radfest2014's on my "winter bike" and Im pretty sure there is Quik-Crete tossed in there too because they weigh like a million grams. great for off season training...

I run High Roller II's on my remedy year round. Love those tires. II'll switch to minion dhf's if they ever offer a 2.5 in 650b. Roll Eyes

We have Ardents in 29x2.4 in stock plus a full array of the aforementioned Specialized tires.  No Ignitors, though.
