Leaves!!! Arghhhh!!

Slid out on leaves and took a spill at Colonel Beatty today going up the black diamond trail after you come off the road by the lake. Landed on my shoulder, dislocating it, and on my bike, which landed on a rock. Too much speed. Sitting at urgent care now.

You should man up and put your shoulder back into place by slamming it into a wall or metal filing cabinet Riggs-style (Lethal Weapon reference).

Sorry bro - that sucks. Looks like a Trek color scheme. Will the bike survive?

It's not the first time that this shoulder has come out. I've had it re set on the field before when I played lacrosse in college.   You are right on with the trek color scheme. It's a fuel EX 7 I just got a few months ago. The dent is pretty bad. I bought Trek Care Plus when I bought the bike so I'm hoping that it covers it.

Most beautiful time of year to ride - cooler temps, changing leaves.

Also the most treacherous...

Good luck with the bike (and the shoulder).

That wouldn't have happened at Fisher Farm or SWDP. Wink  Heal quickly, BTW.

Thanks guys. Luckily I work at a high school and our trainer is going to set me up with some physical therapy once I get mobility back. Also, heard back today that my bike will be covered. The guys at the Trek Store in South Charlotte were very helpful with that.  Hopefully once the polar vortex is gone and my bike is fixed I'll be able to ride on the greenway at least.

Good luck with your recovery! It's great that your bike is covered and you'll be back on two wheels soon.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder. I did the same thing in March at the WWC ( no leaves obviously ). Be patient with recovery time but be diligent. I couldn't even move my arm for a couple days, didn't sleep well for months, and my arm strength was probably 20% of normal for 4-5 months. Your shoulder will get better just don't rush it.

Hit the grounded the hardest I've hit since my teen years at Community Park here in Salisbury last year because of the fall leaves.....  All but knocked the breath out of me.  Sorry to hear of your luck.  Heal quickly!

Yeah there are quite a bit more leaves out at Beatty now, I've been known to break a few bones on pine needles over hard pack too. Real sketchy...good luck with the healing!

will a more aggressive tire help cut through the leaf litter?

aggressive is a hard word to pin down with tires.  Means different things to different folks.  By aggressive do you mean racing slick or super knobby?  A wider and heavier tire will not slip as much.

Something with higher knobs that are not square and are more angled to better penetrate the leaf litter.

As opposed to:

You have to ride leave covered trails like you would drive your car on a wet road. Slow down and be careful!

This guy knows.  I run the Weirwolf 2.3" and I don't have many issues with traction... only slightly loose feeling on extremely dry trails. They are the best tire I have ever run hands down.  I only wish they were a little more volume or perhaps a 2.5" version.

I run Cont. Digga's 2.5 on my bike and they really hook up good in all kind of conditions.

Be quiet, hippy. Wink

I don't want salamanders or moth larvae to get crushed under my tires anyway!  Smiley

Leaves on the trails are not good, that's my opinion. There are plenty of leaves off the trails to support the critters, lizards, plants and all other stuff. I also think it's safer riding without leaves, but they don't bother me when I get to ride.

Wonderful job by those at Sherman.  All of the trails have been blown and are in prime condition.  REALLY APPRECIATE those who came out and did that!!!  Smiley
