RRT Sunday 1/25

I will likely open the trail for Sunday. Had just over an inch of rain here. The main parts of the trail were firm except for a few normal spots. The beginning section through the fields  is wet as the water is slow to drain out. So it would probably be better to just ride on up the road past the kiosk and make a right turn onto the trail after passing the GTX. I would say better to take the bypasses also. The lower parts were not gooey but were slick. Waiting to see how the overnight temps do. Hope that it doesn't dip below freezing to long. I'll change the trail status early in the morning if it looks ok.

Colder than I would of liked for sure, but we'll go for it anyway. The River View Option may be marginal.

I was planning to ride at Uwharrie, but was pleased to be able to save a lot of time when I saw RR was open. Trail was in great shape overall. Too bad I wasn't.

Thanks for making this riding opportunity available Steve. This trail really should be a regular in most everyone's rotation.

I rode the whole trail today around 3pm, including the 2 lower sections.  The conditions were better than I expected.  The only area of concern was the first 100' of so of trail right behind the kiosk.  There were some other soft spots, and 2 puddles on River View, but other than that near perfect today.

Overnight low of around 23 degrees I expect you better ride early or later afternoon on all the area trails. Funny RRT was better Sunday after the rain than the days after the hard freezes.

I was headed to URE for my annual January ride there, and then realized part way there that I had left my helmet at home...I've ridden so little that I'm out of the habit. After getting it, I went on over to RRT as it was then too late for URE. Got there at 3:30 and overall, RRT was excellent. The only badish part was the River View loop. It was pretty greasy in places with deep mud under the power line. Most everything else was prime. I'm really fortunate to have a trail like that so near my house. I did take the wet weather bypasses (except for the River View section).

Trail conditions were very good this afternoon - just enough tackiness for excellent grip.  As previously reported, the only soft area was under the power line on the River View trail section.

Took advantage of the new short trail connector that brings one back to the top of "Down to Ski Run" from "No Name Extension".  Another descent on both "Down to Ski Run" and "Ski Run" followed by a 2nd climb up "No Name" adds a new dimension to the ride.

Thank you Steve for sharing your outstanding trail system and for adding the new connector.
