I'm going to leave this thread up for ongoing North Meck conditions chatter.  Always feel free to pm me too if you have specific questions, concerns, etc.

Definitely PM me if you want to be in the loop for upcoming trail work days or if you would like to do some routine maintenance on your own time.  I'd like to give all of my fellow trail helpers out there a briefing on some of the techniques I'm employing for routine maintenance before you work on your own.  This will allow us all to be on the same page, and make sure that our hard work goes toward the greater good and a consistent vision for the trail.  A big thanks to Tracy (not sure if he is on here) for helping clear leaves from most all of the drains earlier in the winter.

I just opened up the trail and I'm anticipating the conditions to remain favorable through this week until the next rain.  With that being said there is a little freeze thaw going on right now so the trail conditions will most likely be better later in the afternoon after the sun has had time to do it's thing or during the hours when it is still frozen.  There will be some soft spots but nothing we as a riding community can't come together to mitigate once the freeze season is over.

Happy Trails,

Will

Will, I think Jerry and Tracey are responsible for the leaf removal. Thanks guys! I'm not sure, but I think Kevin (Kurtspeed) told me he blew leaves one day, so thank you also!

While I appreciate all of the help, some folks have gone overboard with leaf blowing/raking and I'd like to speak with them to get them on my same page.  We (myself along with some of the club board members) are aiming to narrow in the corridor out there and someone has raked/blown one section of the trail (the last section) really wide.  I just don't want people putting in work that will ultimately be re-worked, gotta work smarter not harder  Wink.  I blew off the first half of the trail in early winter just after the leaves were finished and as you may notice I only blew a ribbon of single track, that's what we are aiming for.  For the record, it's all good  Cool, I just want to meet everyone and get on the same page.

Mike, if you or anyone else has the contact info for the area folks that like to do trail work I'd love to reach out to them.

Will, I have a terrible time getting help at LNSP. Good luck getting some workers. Just post a workday and hope volunteers show up.

I don't anticipate any problems getting volunteers to come out and help.  Key to that is posting in here, on the home page and the FB page and being consistent with the work days. Smiley

I learned to get local volunteers "trained" to my trail work schedule early on at Fisher and it has paid itself back in spades. Smiley  (Thanks to all 150+ volunteers over the past 11 years!!)

EAutry has been getting good participation at Huntersville Elementary this Fall/Winter. Smiley (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Did thw first round of ice breaking on Meck. The trail is probably 90% ice/snow mix. Have to walk in few spots and of course slow moving!

All you cold weather riders hit the trail before tempature rises to much today. Probably have until noon before thing start getting mushy and we will not beable to ride for sometime with the upcoming forescast!

Just a heads up, PLEASE don't ride North Meck right now.  I want to be as liberal as possible with the open/closed status but it's no where near open condition.  I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here but spread the word if you can.

I was out there last night and man, it's horrible right now.  I only walked a small portion of the trail but the general prognosis is that the typical bad spots are really bad and spots that I've never seen be a problem are nasty too.  I know it's sunny but the trail is not fit to ride.  I highly doubt it will even be open on Sunday.  Look in the trail work section of the forum, I'll be posting about work days so we can get this thing rolling right before Spring hits in full swing.

Just bailed on the loop because of rain. Trail is really soft, so I would avoid it until it has a chance to dry out. No sense in causing unnecessary damage.

It will be a St. Patrick's Day miracle if North Meck is able to "Open" tomorrow morning.  I was out working on drains today and there was lots of water everywhere.  I feel like the rain came down so slow that the water on the trail never gained enough momentum to get off.  I will go out and check the trail on my way to the airport tomorrow (before noon) and update the status accordingly if things look good.
