Sherman Branch entrance

Has there been any discussion of somehow leveling out the entrance at Sherman?  My car isn't crazy about the two large ruts as you enter from the street and I suspect other small cars may have the same issue.  I realize it would probably take more than hand tools to do it though.

I didn't know I was opening a can of worms.  I've only been on the forum recently and haven't seen any discussion on the subject.

The entrance to Sherman has been a perpetual problem that has been fixed 3 or 4 times since opening.  The problem is it is gravel and has a fairly steep grade coming off of the road.  I'll confer with the trail coordinator to see if we can get it fixed again.

Don't know what it would cost but why not just pave the entrance up to where it level's.  I have to imagine all the time/money spent throwing gravel and grading it over and over would've easily paid for it to be paved (maybe even just cemented).  With the amount of people that ride sherman, I'm sure most would be willing to donate either the time/$$ to fund it.  I'd certainly donate to it.  My brother in law had his driveway to his house paved with cement and he has about 80-100 yards of drive way and it only cost about $6500 or so?  That would probably only be about 10-15 yards at sherman?

That would eat into the club's leaf blowing budget.   Wink

haz truck don't care...

JK...

I once drove a car on coilovers and understand the dilemma of high angle/low clearance entrances

I know its not the easiest option and would probably have to be cleared from the city but if we do the grunt work and forms a load of concrete isn't that expensive and would solve most of the problem for a very long time. Hell if we brought the mini-X from BYT you could have it all done in an afternoon. I'll even tow it if there is a trailer laying around to use.

This is an ongoing issue from year to year. THTB cannot do work in the parking lot. It is out of the scope of the agreement. Parks and Rec co-ordinates with the DOT to bring in a machine to do the work. There is no plans to pave the entrance. The access to the road may involve NCDOT.
I would implore anyone considering a do it yourself project to consider the consequences of poking the Char-Meck Bear.

The easy thing to do would be to move the entrance to the other end of the parking lot. It only slightly higher than the road.It may even give a safer line of sight for user coming in and out of the parking lot. Asking to move it can't be any harder than asking to fix what already does not hold up for more than a year or two after each repair. I have no idea if they would have to get a permit from the state to do this but I'm sure they know how to do it. All parks have added entrances to allow access.

This is a great idea.....parking would be more "natural" that direction as well....
