I stole FourMat's idea but I manned up and drilled holes in my cover.

I still think it was my idea to put it on top of the truck bed  Roll Eyes  (just not on the tonneau cover)  Y-duck, that install looks really clean; did you have to add the channel rails first?  And how easy does it lift with two bikes?

They rule harder than everything......EVER.......

Ditto. If I'm taking one bike, and I'm going to be running around all day - I use this mount. I also run a cable lock through the frame and rear wheel. So it's locked in 2 places.

Option 2 is a hitch rack that I can swap between the car and truck. (swagman)

Option 3 is over the tailgate.

Option 4 is in the back. This is usually where the bike is after a ride, and on the way home. No need to take the wheel back off...

I went to the Pull a Part and robbed the tracks and bolts off of a Ford Explorer.  Inside I cut little pieces of aluminum to help spread the load.  It can still be lifted with 2 bikes on it but it is a little heavy.  It is a 2 handed operation where without the rack it is a 1 handed operation.

Y-duck, did you look in to getting a higher rated gas lift?  I recently had to replace one in a truck box and found the internet resources for gas lift shocks to be very vast.
