The work session at Fisher this Sunday will involve big boy toys. We are armoring a section of field that is constantly wet and sloppy. The armor is a type of man made stone work buried in the tread and back filled. This should let the water flow through the tread and the trail hold in place. Come out Sunday at 830 and lend a hand and see how this goes together. If it works then be part of the success. If not you will have earned the right to scream "I told you so".

Great turnout yesterday morning!  Thanks to Traci H, John B, Tom F, Tom A and Edward A for braving the misty, cold weather!  Even though we had to work in a mucky mess, we got our objective accomplished!  Hopefully Tom F will post up the pictures sometime today. Smiley

That is a plate compactor.
We dug out a muddy messy section, back filled it with a crushed material, ran a plate compactor over it, Next we set Turf Block which is a lattice work man made stone material in place. Filled it with the crush material and then compacted it. This should reduce significantly if not eliminate the mud bog that is/was perpetual in this stretch.
If it works we can try it in other areas around the network.

Unless you meant the McCleod that Mark Sullivan is using. Would not call him a machine though!  Grin

Yeah John. But knowing how slippery that slope was and the adobe boots you had on that is a three point safety stance.

......

Thanks, it looks like it was made for making single track. Never saw that item used like that in trail builds before but it seems to be a perfect size for trail width.

Just a clarification.  We don't actually use a plate compactor to build single track.  We were using it to compact crushed material being used as a base for the turf block.  Thinking of getting one to use for finish work on berms and jumps, though!

FYI the Turf Block seems to be doing really well. Very nice improvement!
