Where is the best place to get a hitch installed in Charlotte?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a hitch bike rack?

Thanks:)

U-haul usually does a good job, although I have not used their Charlotte locations.

1-Up   best rack out there

Bought mine from Uhaul, installed it myself. Only 4 bolts, 15 minutes of work.

We have a 5 bike Thule that is often used multiple times a week. After a couple of years it's still in great condition.

I have a Thule tray.  Stays on my truck throughout riding season and is in perfect shape.

Damn, sorry to hear that.  That's why I installed the aftermarket Nissan Automatic Truck Missile Turret System..

I've twice used A&B Truck and Trailer (they're in the Charlotte yellow pages) to buy and install a trailer hitch. The last time was about 3 years ago. The first time was about 10 years ago. On both occasions, I price checked several places and they were the best. I had no complaints either time. They had it installed in less than an hour. BUT BEFORE YOU BUY: have them show you how the hitch will fit onto the vehicle and make sure that the hitch protrudes from under the bumper enough to reach easily. I had to buy an extension for my first one to get it far enough out for the rack to clear the bumper. But I don't blame the installer and I'm not even sure another hitch brand would have been different. It's just something to be aware of when making a purchasing decision.

As for the rack, just look for a tray-style rack that holds the bike firmly. Not a hanging rack that lets bikes swing and hit one another and the rack support. The tray style racks come in many names and prices, but any of them are better than the alternative. Some other posters have mentioned some good names; some cheaper alternatives are the Swagman XTC series and similar. The more expensive ones are indeed better, but I don't know how price conscious you are.

There's a place on Highway 74 right as you are coming into Matthews on the inbound side of 74 close to the Infinity dealership.  Very small store front.  I can't recall the name but believe it's still there.

Great group of folks.  Did all my research first and they delivered.

I second A&B. They have installed receivers on customers vehicles since we have been open in 99.

There is no movement of the bikes on our 5 bike Thule when the bikes are loaded correctly. I can see a tray style working better, though probably wasn't an option for us with 5 adult bikes, but I just thought I'd throw it out there that not all hanging racks allow the bikes to move.

Thanks for the help! I am purchasing the hitch from U haul and having a friend/mechanic install it for me. Looking at the one up hitches. Looking for something lightweight. Definitely not doing the "hanging" style.  Smiley
