North Meck hours

Hi,

Been googling about park hours for the North Mech park, and only seem to find the office hours- I hope.  All I see is M-F, 8a-5p...is this correct?

I've never ridden here before, but plan to ride here in the near future, but can't believe the park is closed on the weekends.

Would love any first hand knowledge about trail hours please.

Thanks in advance,
kyle

The park is open 8:00 am to sun set seven day a week. You can also night ride at north meck after park ours but you have to park at the church beside of the park and be off the trail by 11:00 pm in the summer and 9:00 pm in the winter.

Don't forget there is a trail run there today. A K9-5k at 130 until 230. 50 people running the trail with dogs in tow.....

Well dang...  I'm not sure how that's going to affect the work I did yesterday.  Hopefully all those feet pack it in.

I think the gates are open at 7am. 7 days a week. It closes at 9pm if someone is at the tennis courts and even later while softball games are in progress. Like Brian said, park at the church if you ride at night so you don't get locked in.

Typically opens at 7am and closes at dark. 6PM-9PM.

As far as night riding goes...here is the most up to date 411 on the subject.

"Park hours are from dawn til dusk for all users.  If an event like a ball game or CX race is happening, park is open until that event ends.  If you night ride and there are still events going on, then you "shouldn't" have a problem.  If you night ride outside of those parameters you are operating at your own risk and under "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL."

Your safest bet to not get locked in is to park next door in the church parking lot.  If they give you a hard time...leave.  Don't give them a hard time because you are a guest in their parking lot.

This goes for North Meck, Beatty, Renni, Fisher Farm and Jetton.  Sherman Branch is no beuno on night riding, PERIOD.  Gates are closed and locked at dusk.  If you park on the rode and night ride, you may very likely get ticketed.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer but someone's gotta do it. Smiley

encountered a little kid on the trail today riding his powerwheel car with his 2 brothers with him on bikes, going in the opposite direction of traffic. even better, the kid was wearing his headphones

i guess it would be hard to monitor something like this with the neighborhood right behind the trail with easy access

Out there tonight for the first trail riding in "normal" riding gear.  Nice to see who whole lot of new bikes out there, nice jump the first couple of feet from the start.  All of the trail seems to beem cleaned really well over the winter.

Not sure what is going out of the power line route, they seem to ge doing a lot of cuptting, All in all, nice evening, Saw at least 12 bikes and maybe 5 walkers.  Cant wait to start night riding that again.

Was going to comment around the root at the start right after the big jump at the entrance.  Saw a rider topple over, not a big crash, but he wasn't expecting the curve to come up that quick after the jump.  I think that root has created a small hazard for those who don't expect it.  Maybe add a little dirt around it given the rut that has developed.  Maybe just more character to the trail.

John, the power company hires a tree cutting company to cut trees too close to their lines. I think the work has been completed.

Trails have roots and are an exercise in the unexpected.  Look before you leap. Smiley

Yea, that root is getting pretty exposed and the new step down allows you to carry more speed into the uphill left hand turn.  It is something I am looking at and evaluating the options for that section.  I think I may try to add some dirt first and see how that works and move on from there.  I'm the trail coordinator for North Meck and I appreciate your input John!

Thanks TrillWill.

I agree that roots add character and are fine.  I just see this one in a full turn after you get some speed as something that just needs to be looked at and after watching someone tumble over it.  Most riders who have done at least one loop at N. Meck expects that corner and knows the speed now to take that.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised/confused in the uptick in the number of riders going anti-clockwise... Did I miss a memo?

If I had a few signs informing riders and walkers which way they should be going, I'd put them up. But, some people can't read anyway, so I don't know if would do any good.

I'm under the impression that the trail is directional for mountain bikers and that the direction is clockwise.

Yup Will it is Clockwise for MTB.
The signage at the T/H and exit may not be clear.
