How wet is too wet--SWDP

I was on the Southwest District Park trail yesterday and in parts it was fairly wet.  In general, what are guidelines on how dry a trail needs to be to balance between usage and damage?

If you have to ask, then that's probably your answer.

Hey Nuke. Doc is right, but another rule of thumb is if you are picking up mud or leaving ruts, you shouldn't ride.

SWDP is not really rideable (maybe today) but has light traffic so I'm hoping the damage will be mimimal.

As soon as I can get Mark to buy me some lumber I'm gonna boardwalk some of the really bad areas that don't drain well.  Wink

I'm surprised there is much tread not draining at SWDP. I can think of 1 or 2 suspect flattish areas, but not much. It may just be that time of year ....

It's interesting... the trail handles big rains in the summer-fall with no issue.... in fact is ridable sooner than most trails. But starting this January, there have been sections that just refuse to dry out. They are flat and putting drains is almost impossible. Several of us were out there digging trenches and such, but I think boardwalking some of the worst parts is the only answer.

Big rains or down pours tend to run off the trail rather than soak in during the summer as a lot of trials are baked and hard.
Several days of light to med. rain tends to soak the soil.

Government has no reason to use common sense or be efficient as it pays no price for failure.
