a freind of ours was hit this morning in a hit and run on Central.

Police are searching for the driver of a silver Ford Windstar minivan; CMPD says they believe the year model to be between 1999 and 2003. Police say the minivan will have minor front-end damage from striking the bicycle and may have damage to the hood and passenger side windshield.

The cyclist, now identified as 51-year-old David Spranger, was taken to CMC Main with life threatening head injuries.

Inbound Central Avenue was closed while crews investigated and cleared the scene; the roadway has since reopened.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have been driving in the area at 5 a.m. to give them a call.

Hope the guy's alright.

The driver needs some serious punishment.

I saw this morning (or last night) that he's breathing on his own.  Jeff @ Weekly Rides has been sharing updates on Facebook.

Last night on the news, they interviewed him and seemed to be better.  They did catch the guy who did the hit and run, so that was good.

David is recovering and doing better, but still has a broken leg, a hip/pelvis broken in 2 places as well as other broken bones to contend with. I'll be curious to hear what really happened and what happens to the driver. I belive he rode with a go pro so we may be closer to the story than the media knows. I do know David typically commuted with safety vest (seen on ground in media pic) and lights. As we get into prime commuting season please be safe out there.

We should get a fund going to replace his commuter bike. I'd put $100 towards it.

What is it with all the hit and runs? A jogger got nailed this week too. Driver took off but got caught, said she thought she hit a dog. The only difference between hitting a dog and hitting a human is when people hit dogs they actually stop. Sad. I have commuted to work several times and I must say most drivers give me room but I get at least a few who buzz me on every ride.
