Mandatory Pet Licensing in Mecklenburg County

I had to bring my cat to the vet a month or two back for some bloodwork.  He got rabies vaccinated since it's required under law, and in the mail yesterday I get a postcard from CMPD (which really came from a 3rd party contracted by CMPD) regarding pet licensing.

Tried looking it up and it's apparently required in the county, although we can't find any kind of penalty if we don't pay it. My cat is now clearly "on the grid" so they'll know if I don't pay it, though.

What the heck is the licensing even for?  I can understand for outdoor pets but he's permanently indoors.

Feel free to disregard those - I have for years. Unless you are going to pay my dog's vet bills, or buy his food, or provide some sort of product or service, I'm not giving you a dime.

DITTO.
Charlotte is starting to look and sound like San Francisco. That might be a bit of an exaggeration.

Welcome to the change you voted for ( that should wind a few up) in years past you only needed to get your dog a rabies shot and you got your tag. Now it includes All dogs, cats and ferrets, now like other big metro area run by the clueless you now have to license your cats and ferrets too and to add insult the license fees vary depending if the pet is fixed or not.

Government has no reason to use common sense or be efficient as it pays no price for failure.

If your pet ever gets picked up by Animal Control they probably won't release them until you pay up.  Had a lab puppy they held for several days because she was under 4 mos and hadn't been vaccinated.  Got kennel cough as a result.

Ever break a dog out of Animal Control? It's not too hard (that's where they put the people too dumb/small to be cops). And if you're too dumb to be a cop...

Grin

(just kidding - props to the poh-lease)

Change?  Pet licensing has always been a requirement as long as I've lived here. (since 2006).  I've never done it and my dogs go to the vet regularly.  I've also taken them to the free rabies clinic at the animal control facility.  I have not licensed them at all and nothing has ever happened to me or my animals.  I can't take them to dog parks which is the only downfall i know.
