I should add that I make an assumption that the person(s) opening or closing the WWC or any other trail due to weather are the ones who maintain them or closely communicate with those that do.  If that's the case then calling someone out is speaking out of turn.  I didn't mean my last post as harsh as maybe it came off though.

I think most of us can agree that the work done by the trail coordinators and regular crews is greatly appreciated AND the occasional ride by some after a rain is not the end of the word.

I'm not a regular but I have done some trail work at Fisher, LNSP and helped build the pump track (the first time) at N. Meck and it's not easy work.  So if a trail is closed I try to respect the wishes of others but know that some are going to choose to ride anyway.  We'll live.

My main point is that the trail system out there keeps improving.... So lets just keep quiet and continue to let them pursue awesomeness... Everybody wins.. Cool

Either several more local trails will open tomorrow, or this thread will be deleted, as common sense and the trail coordinators are being challenged.

And to the peeps at the WWC. Totally get opening the trails for an event planned out months in advance that brought in lots of folks from all over.  Somewhat of a D bag move closing the trail to your local biking community as soon as the race finished.

So I get why the trails used for Tuck Fest may be closed for while--what about the ones that weren't--like the east loop?  I hope with the number of new trails they are adding, events like this won't shut down the whole WWC system.

That's another issue. I don't recall them ever "partially" opening the trails. They close options from time to time, but as far as I remember if either of the mains, north or south, are closed the entire trail system is closed, including east and lake which have little to nothing to do with north or south.

For the record, I completely support large events at local trails. Rain or shine. I wish we had more events like this at other trails in the area.

My only bitterness is that I live 2.5 miles from where the thread trail runs into Belmeade Dr. So that means when they are closed I can't just ride from my house to get a good ride in. There are only so many hours in a day. It sucks having to use one or more in a car on the way to a trail.

I also live 2.5 miles from the thread trail access at Belmeade.  I opt for driving to Poston or suck it up and use the road bike.

I rode the short track race this past weekend.  If you didn't you missed out big time!

You can't expect them to cancel an event because the trails are wet. You'd be killing Tuck Fest street cred for years to come.

The trails didn't seem to bad by the time we were through. There were only a few man made features on the short track course anyways.

Got some good video of the race: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vcESb661Us]

Don't own a rode bike, don't want one, that 2.5 to the thread trail is more time than I care to spend on the road.

Yes, I spend a lot of time at Poston as well.

Rode the out and back as far as the last third... there are a few big puddles that I decided not to ford....
Hit the green/lake loop and it was in great shape...  Tomorrow I will hit the majority of the trail mileage but what I saw today there wasn't much impact from this past weekend... or perhaps the guys at WWC did a fantastic job of fixing all the "damage"  this week... anyway...

Overall what I saw... the volume of rain had more impact than the runners & riders this weekend...

You can tell where the short track or foot race was. The intro connector seems really packed down, almost smooth and about a foot wider throughout.  That's seems like the fairly standard result of other similar events, more the running ones than the bIke ones. The widening is hard or impossible to undo. there are a few rutty sections from bikes and washed out sections from water, some big puddles on the thread trail, but otherwise in good shape overall.

Thread is a sloppy mess as expected. Rest of the trail is in good shape. Couple trees down all hopable except one near the end of east main. IDK maybe some of you could hop the one on east to. I couldnt.

Trail was in awesome shape yesterday.  Didn't ride Thread as it tends to be sloppy in the dry months.  No big ruts or epic puddles on what I did ride to justify some of the rants earlier in the week.

Who maintains the thread trail? I've only ridden it once, late in the season last year after it officially reopened, and it was in great shape then and a fun addition to the rest of the trails there. Is it a sloppy mess due to a comparative lack of attention, or just due to the land on which it is located?

I was wandering the same thing. I rode it for the first time a last week and had a blast! I noticed a sign saying "You are now leaving the WWC".

I am pretty sure the WWC team maintains the thread trail... It wasn't that bad... Like I said there were two big puddles that are due in large part to the overflow of water.
It looks like they have cleared all  the drains that could be cleared...  The rest is a problem area that will always be there due to the terrain.
