Using the 55k as a "Pisgah experience" is doing yourself a disservice.

That route is arguably the hardest 30 miles you can do up here. There are rides for literally every level of rider from beginner to expert. No one rides up Black unless your racing or training or crazy.

Get on with a good group of folks and give it a shred. Its much better than the 55k would let you believe.

Pisgah rules. I love it so much I quit my job and moved up here. Went from Beatty to Black and having a ball...

Rob, you would not like this climb at all (even though I know you would do it)...

For the record there aren't many climbs I actually "like."  Unless of course its on a chair lift.

For me, the first 15 min of a Pisgah climb sucks, however, I kind of fall into it and after the initial pain, actually enjoy the challenge.  I also look forward to the descent, which is unlike anything around Charlotte.

Clawhammer-Maxwell Cove-Black Mountain is a classic that everyone should try. You can tack on Sycamore as stated if you still have some juice left in the tank.

This is the best Pisgah first run. If you love it, there's tons more where this came from. If you're way over your head than you should head over to Dupont... This was my first Pisgah rode and I thought it was brutal (actually Sanders made me go clawhammer to black, so we did a little worse than cutting over Maxwell)... But I have taken several people to Pisgah on this route for their first ride as well and its a classic. Going up black is a different story but not the worst thing I've ever done... Smiley

Another good first ride is Hatchery/Cove Creek/Daniel

Or you could just go for it and start off with Farlow or Laurel/Pilot

Pretty sure this was my first Pisgah ride (it was many beers ago so not 100% sure)... Ripping down Pilot on my old Jekyll... I've been hooked ever since.
