Need mtb doesnt have to be locked up $200 Budget

My Son is going to be riding to Beatty each day this Summer  to try out for the XC Team.
He needs a bike that he can leave in the racks at the Tennis Courts while working out and not have to worry about locking

  • 26 or 29 works.
    Geared or SS is fine.
Rigid, HT or FS is fine,
    Medium to large
A little bit of cool factor wouldnt suck

For what its worth we will probably be donating it  to Trips for Kids at the end of the Summer.

Thanks for looking

I have a bike that might be right up your alley it's around 18" or 19"
It's an unbranded 1994 Mongoose IBOC (looptail) with an LX group mix of components and Rock Shox Mag fork.

this may sound like a dumb question, but is there such a thing as a bike that doesn't have to be locked up?  thieves don't usually discriminate.

I've got a '99 K2 Razorback w/new XT chainrings, cassette & chain.
The front Manitou fork may need a re-build.

I guess what I mean is if (and when) he leaves it unlocked at the park and it DOES get stolen......the loss wont be so devastating.

BTW....You Guys have prices in mind?

Why not put some skin in the game for your son.... My father did this for an early Bike for myself.
He matched me my contribution for a bike -  my $200 + his $200  So with with $400 smackers I got a pretty rad new 26" - 21 speed MOTIV in 1989!!

I had ownership in this thing. I wanted to keep it nice- And I did, take care of it.. never lost it - only broke it from FUN abuse!

your 200$ contribution + his part of $$ in the game  - he might appreciate it more!

Just thoughts- sure- age - value - earning potential - all can be different.

Walmart also has bikes that can get lost for cheap!

Those are all good ideas.
He and I have actually built up three bikes together as he has grown.  THe probelm is His Mom and I do not want him riding his current bike there each day as he is pushing to do.

So is this just a camp or something?  Like he is riding his bike to the camp, then riding something else?  I have a really cool single speed roadie I'd sell for cheap.

I have your solution.  I have an old Schwinn Moab 2 in chrome.  Medium (17") frame.  You can have it.  Might need a little love.  I think the shifter and rear wheen are pretty rough but should be good other than that.
