Uwharrie advice

Going to ride Uwharrie for the first time ever this weekend and could use some advice on a good route around this place.  Been studying the map and figure I will just ride the outer perimeter of both Keyauwee and Supertree as that should be more than enough miles for me.  So would it be best to ride in on the access trail and go left doing Keyauwee first in the clockwise direction or go right doing supertree first in the counter clockwise direction?  This assumes these trails are bi-directional, which seems to be the case based on some reviews I've found.  How well are the trails/intersections marked?  Any advice/tips appreciated.  Thanks.

One option is to ride Keyauwee "out and back".  Just turn around when you get to the intersection with the main fire rd and the end of Keyauwee.  I really like that route, the trails is fun both directions.

I like to do a figure 8 when I ride Uwharrie. If your up for 21-22 miles it's a great route. You can see on the map there are a couple of spots to bale if you need two.

I was only out there once - last year I think. I rode Supertree to Keyauwee counterclockwise. I learned later (from a thread that came out around that time) that most guys here ride the whole thing clockwise. I wish I had too. The trail just looked like it would have flowed better going the other way, but by the time I realized this it was too late.

Still a great ride.

Let us know how it goes.

Park at the Pit bathroom at Woodrun camp ground ( just follow main fire road in till you come to Bathroom).

Ride the Woodrun trail out and back (2 miles round trip) to warm your legs up and because its a fun trial.

Then jump on Keyauwee and ride it clockwise!
When it dumps you back at the Fireroad take a  right and  very quick left on next fire road, which is supertree.  Follow Supertree back around to where you are parked or if you  are lucky enough to find Whitetail (unmarked on your right about 3/4 of a mile into supertree) then take that till it brings you back to your car.  About a 13 mile loop.

Happy trails

Thanks guys.  The route Doc00t has suggested looks like what I'm looking for mileage wise.  Are the pit bathrooms located at the same place as the Trail Kiosk or are they farther down the fireroad?  This is the map I've been using.

Hope that hyperlink worked.  It's the map from the trail tab of this website.

The pit bathrooms are located about a mile or so in on the gravel road. Here's my preferred ride:

Park in the parking area at the highway. Ride the gravel road about a quarter mile, then a hundred yards or so after passing under the power lines you'll see Woodrun Trail branching off of the road to the right (not marked); take that. This trail (nice single track) will take you to the pit toilets. Pick up Keyauwee at the toilets and ride clockwise. At the end, you'll cross the gravel road and continue onto Supertree. Try to locate Whitetail branching off to the right about a half mile in or so...its only identification is a wooden sign that looks like it has a mountain or something on it. Whitetail is a really nice single track trail. It will end at a double track road (end of Supertree) where you turn right, which takes you back to the pit toilets. From there I take Woodrun Trail back toward the original parking lot.

Note 1: If you want more miles, after getting back to the pit toilets, turn right to follow the gravel road further up the hill. You'll get to an intersection where Keyauwee goes left and Supertree goes right. Take either of them back to the pit toilets.

Note 2: Regarding the location of Whitetail trail, don't sweat it finding it. If you miss it, all that happens is that you continue on Supertree, which eventually takes you back to the pit toilets. I just like Whitetail better; Supertree has a lot of double track.

Note 3: I personally see no reason to park at the pit toilets, since I plan to ride Woodrun trail essentially the whole distance between the parking lot and the pit toilets anyway.

My 2 cents.

Just keep in mind that the map you provided a link for is not exactly accurate. You should be alright with it but its not quite right either.
Try using the map on the first link of this thread. Use the toggle icon in the lower left corner on the map. Then zoom in. That map is accurate.

Thanks for all the help guys.  Had a great ride Saturday morning.  The map on MTB Project was a big help keeping us going in the right direction.  Started at the parking lot by the highway and rode the woodrun connector trail to the pit toilets, then clockwise on Keyawee (sp), then I'm pretty sure we came back down on whitetail and back out to the parking lot. After getting on the supertree two track we came to a trail about .25 miles in that went right and left.  Didn't look like it was whitetail according to where we were on the MTB Project map so we went a little further and found another trail going right and took it back down to the gravel road.  Seemed like the path less traveled and we took down all the spiderwebs, but still nice single track.  Thinking it was Whitetail, but not sure???

Heath the first trail about 1/4 mile in was a hiking trail. Sounds like you managed to find White Tail. My take is that it is much preferable to Supertree. Glad you enjoyed the system.
