So I'm in the process of saving for and obsessively researching a 29 that fits all my needs (which is primarily, overwhelmingly XC and local trails, but I like to have a little bit extra for rides in the mountains too). The usual suspects are on my "short list" - Niner Jet 9 carbon, Santa Cruz Tallboy C, Trek Fuel EX 29, etc. But there are also some exotics - the 2016 Orbea Occam and this:

That's a good looking bike. Does anybody ride one, have one, stock one?

I love the idea of that evil, and the way it looks, but I would be a little bit wary due to the checkered past of the company and the fact that it is a carbon frame on its very first production run. That being said they have been extremely popular and are sold out just about everywhere. Another thing that concerns me about that design is the complexity of the linkage. I can't imagine trying to isolate the creak in that delta contraption. 😯

I like the Ibis Ripley LS as well... you're supposed to make the short list shorter, not longer.

The Marin Rift Zone looks like it has some version of ABP; the 2016 Occam looks like it has VPP (and is much better looking).

What happened with Evil in the past?

Oh the Occam is Sexy. I've ridden the Rift Zone and it does pretty awesome here especially at RRT.

Consider the Specialized Camber at 110mm travel or the Camber EVO at 120mm travel. Does well locally and in the mountains.

The Hub is Brevard has few Evil frames in stock.  Everyone who has ridden one raves about it.
