Go to a shop that can fit you for a saddle to get you started and try some.  Saddles are very rider specific.  That said, I prefer WTB

WTB Silverado was a pretty good one. I really like the Bontrager Evoke R saddles as well (I have one on both my hardtail and full sus).

There are some good saddles in the "budget" range, however test a bunch and not for a short ride, what sometimes feels good for a few miles might not after an hour or two.

Add me as another WTB saddle fan.  Had the rocket V and currently the pure V, and both really worked well for me being a little bit of a bigger rider at 6'3" 225lbs.  Very affordable, wider and comfy, but doesn't feel like a huge seat in your way when you hit the rough stuff.

Mine is actually a carry over from my road biking.  I use SMP Extra on all of my rides. But it's definitely a personal preference thing and I can only suggest trying a few different styles out.
