question on brand

I currently have a 2014 DiamondBack Sorrento. It is the first bike i have ever purchased, needless to say, i knew nothing about bikes. I thought 350 dollars was going to get me everything i needed. I was WRONG. Especially after falling in love with the sport.

Thankfully, I have been able to upgrade the bike very affordably, thanks to a good friend of mine and fellow member that introduced to me this forum. Also, several members here were able to help me get new tires. You folks and this community are awesome.

so my question, no one on here that i have seen posts anything about diamondback. As a company they have high end bikes that are comparable and some better than other high end more respected brands such as trek or specialized. so why not diamondback? why are they not even on the radar? please be brutally honest. knowledge is power my friends.

I had a Diamond Back many years ago (1987) and loved it.

I think part of the problem is that Box stores like Dick's and Sports Authority sell Diamondback.  If your going to spend decent money on a bike, i imagine most people would like to have a name that can easily be differentiated from a $299 Apex.

I like riding nice bikes, plus I have only ever known one guy that worked at a place like Dick's that I trust touching my bike. Cheesy (You know who you are)

It seems like Diamondback took the same route as Mongoose and GT did.  They started focusing more on the low-end of the market and volume verse being a premium brand.  All three were the $#!+ back in the 80's and 90's (I owned a GT and Mongoose), but from my personal perspective, it seems like they all sold out.  To your original point, they still make good quality, high-end bikes.  However, it's harder for the serious cycling community to correlate quality when they sell at Walmart and other big box stores.

My 2 cents.
