Virtual Race Club

I have created the Charlotte Virtual Race Club. I have been experimenting with how we can do some virtual races in the Charlotte area. This is my first attempt at opening it up to others. The Concept is to pick a segment each week. You can ride the segment anytime during the week as many times as you like. Your best time will be posted on the clubs leaderboard in MATESRACE. .

To join open Strava and search under clubs for "Charlot Virtual Race Club". The Please go to (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) and sign up on their website. Once you have signed up on both Strava to the Charlotte Virtural Race club and the (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) app you should be able to see your results anytime during the week. Thanks for taking part…..

A big reminder is that these segments are done on open multi use trails and you must follow the trail rules and yield to hikers, runners and horses. You are responsible for your own actions. This is not an organized race but a way to compare weekly training times to others in the club. Again search clubs for "Charlotte Virtual Race Club" and join.

This weeks Segment WWC Goat Hill Climb........

I copied and pasted what you posted "Charlot Virtual Race Club" no hit. I then tried Charlotte Virtual Race Club and found it.
Anyway I joined. my time for this week is from a ride on Tuesday. I only spun up goat with no real effort. I may get back out there Saturday and put an effort into it. What day do the new segments start and where are they listed? will you inclued fast flowy sections also and not just climbs?
I like using Strava and the weekly segment race should be fun. Thanks for setting it up Greg.

Thanks Doug,

The segments start on Monday's.  We will be doing some more flowey segments as well as some longer loops in the future.  Just needed to do the first rollout with something shorter at first.  Next week thinking of doing some longer section at Sherman's......

I'm glad you set this up!  I'm not a racer by any means, but this gives me a good reason to go out and ride.

Specifically the Lake Loop?  Dumb question, is the entire main loop besides roller coaster the Lake Loop?  Or is it that one far loop that literally goes around the lake.  (Don't yell at me)  Roll Eyes

I need this info ASAP so I know where to use my "STRAVAAA" voice.

The loop starts and finishes where the trail crosses the old road bed.

I wish I could see the segment.  Huh

Officialy the Lake Loop starts and finishes where it leaves the Main. It has side by side enter/exits.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

If you go to a recent Sherman's segment and select Lake Loop Full from the ride you can see the segment.  The segments I am using are current segments that have existed for some time.

This is a great idea. I hope you keep this going. I'm going out of town for a couple weeks but I plan on trying this out when I return. I'm slow, but it will be nice to see how slow I am.

How does this actually work with strava??  The problem I see with strava is that if you are doing Phone only... often the phone mileage is Way off by miles.  On 10+ mile rides I've seen it off by 3-4 miles so the strava stats are skewed?  Does this take into consideration that information?

I don't think it's serious enough for anyone to worry about using an iphone vs a garmin etc.

Haha... yeah, don't get me wrong.... I don't see how anyone would take this to seriously... even when or if you are racing... IMHO, it's always really just a race against oneself anyways.  Great idea/tool btw.  I'm just interested to see if you would actually be able to use this with strava realistically to see for yourself if you wanted to so that you can track your own progress as compared to other riders.  Ryan, you already know I know I'm slow!  haha  That said, I would imagine not... as with what I've seen with strava, crap in, crap out.   Wink

Strava only uses the time not the mileage for comparison purposes. The mileage for any segment is based on whatever the person who created the segment got when they rode it. I've seen plenty of segments that were a lot shorter then what I recorded with my garmin ( be it from different calibration on their garmin or using phone).
