checked out some ghost mountain bikes at REI. Not only did they look awesome. They seemed really well made, and are apparently a well known brand in Europe, specifically Germany. Anybody, have a chance to ride one? Thoughts on the brand and components?

Best use      Mountain biking
Bike style      Mountain bike
Bike frame material      Carbon

I particularly noticed that both front and rear derailluer are both XT. Apparently this is an upgrade in quality because generally the front derailluers aren't produced of the same quality as the rear?

I think they are probably as good as any other big name brand (ie. Sprecialized, Giant, Trek).  I saw one at the WWC last week and it looked like a really nice bike.  The spec you have listed is as nice as anyone would need or want unless you do a full custom build with handmade wheels, carbon bars, post, stem...

Too bad they didn't put a 15mm thru axle up front but that would not be a deal breaker for a lot of riders looking for a XC bike.

I rode with a guy at Sherman who had one in 27.5. He liked it. A forum user named Nuke (probably the same guy) has talked about Ghost bikes from REI as well. You should ask him.

I was in Germany for work a couple of weeks ago.  They are clearly a popular brand there.  I have not heard a bad thing about them.

I have a Kato 5 and like it but I just found out the same company that owns Ghost owns Raleigh and Diamondback as well.  There are good Raleigh and DB bikes as well at the higher end and not to say the company that owns them can't also own another company that makes a better bike company.  I'd still buy one again but I wanted to share that.

Wasn't me at Sherman.  Haven't been there for few months.

Probalby can't go too wrong with the assurance of REI's return policy
