Chinatown Wheel Build

Figured I would share my wheel build.  I'm going to catch all sorts of he** since I went with china carbon.   Roll Eyes  I essentially tried to mimic the specialized fattie wheels.

F Hub: Bike Hub Store 28H 15mm Thru Red
R Hub: Industry 9 28H Red
Rims: 27.5 Nextie Wildcat Aysymetrical 32mm ID
Spokes: Sapim Lasers
Nipples: Red Alum

Since I'm light (150 geared up,) I went with a 28 Hole setup.  I've heard that it can help minimize any harshness due to the extra stiffness of carbon...we shall see!

Wheels look great.

I've got some Nextie Carbons. So far no issue. Keep us posted on how they are holding up.

Will do Enoch.  I hope to get everything mounted up today.

Anybody have experience with using the clear plastic gorilla tape for tubeless on carbon rims?  The stuff works great on aluminum...but am wondering if its too sticky for carbon.  I assume it will peel off with a heat gun if needed..

Put these on the scale yesterday for my own curiosity.  They are 200 grams (.45lbs) lighter than my arch EX/hope pro II wheels.  Bare wheels without tape/stems/rotors were 760g front and 860g rear.  Arches were 840/980.

The wide rims make the tires look beefy....  It will make your bike look like a DH rig.

My Nexties were 40mm wide and 30mm tall and weighed 460grms. THat is about the same as a Stans Arch EX which is only 24.6mm wide.

I see now they have expanded into the Assemetric rims.  If I buy anothe set, they will be with the new offset design.

I guess if I had one complaint with any of the China rims rims it would be how horrible the nipple holes are drilled. It puts a pretty good strain on the the threads and has led to some premature breakage. I have been trying to re align the spokes to help with this but it still looks bad.

Since I'm new to this, what does the asymmetrical shape offer in advantage?  I've never seen that before.

Better non driveside spoke tension. Helps reduce the dish of the wheel caused by the cassette hub.

What about up front?  Is asymmetrical still needed due to the brake rotor offset?  Or would it not be as crucial up front?
