So I am new to the area and fairly new to the sport and love it! I am getting my self back into shape slowly but surely. Are there any fairly flat trails out there. I am coming from the Fort Mill area.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

I was going to suggest that as it is probably the flattest in the area.  Not sure how far you are willing to drive, but I find N. Meck the most enjoyable beginner-oriented trail in the area.  A straight shot up I-77 from Fort Mill (exit 23 or 25).

Southwest District Park/Southview Rec Center I believe is the best beginner trail out there.  Fairly flat and not technical.  It's around the airport, closer than Beatty from Fort Mill but not as close as Anne Springs Close or Riverwalk.

Walnut Creek is relatively flat and well groomed.

It's close to you as well.

If you need directions, let me know.

Where is that?  I Googled and found nothing but trails in Austin or Charlottesville, VA.

Actually it's called 12 mile creek trail. It runs along the creek next to the Walnut Creek subdivision along the NC/SC border off 521 just north of NC 75 to Waxhaw.

It's part of the Carolina Thread Trail.

Rumor has it, it will be expanded at some point in the future heading into NC and may make it all the way to Waxhaw. It's about 3.5 miles one way. But there are many side trails and diversions if you're looking for more mileage in the area or just want to explore. Some of these are more technical. It's a fun trail and area to ride or hike. Not much traffic either.

To park, take the back entrance to Walnut Creek subdivision (next to the fire/ems station). Follow the road to the traffic circle, then park next to the ball fields and concession building on the left. Look for the kiosk. It starts by running down the sidewalk around the ball fields, then drops off onto the trail at the end.

While I agree NM is a great beginner trail and an easy ride for most, I wouldn't call it flat. WWC lake Loop would be best IMO if you want flat. Not too familiar with trails south of uptown.
