Uwharrie is on Fire!

So last week I came across a Timber Rattler at Uwharrie, this week the Keyauwee Trail was on Fire!

Talked to the Fire Rangers and they believe someone did not put out a camp fire properly.  They were actually starting fires at the edge of the trail and letting it burn up to the main fire.  It was so dry out there that the creek crossing at the bottom of the long flowy downhill on Keyauwee was dry.  I have never seen it that dry.  Crazy

All the creeks were dry when I was out there last weekend. First time I have ever seen that.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

That's pretty crazy. Something you don't see everyday.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

I went hiking out there 4 weekends ago then backpacking (1 nighter) the following and it was noticeably drier that next weekend. A friend wanted to try out a new water filter but we couldn't even find a decent flowing stream in the central Badin Lake area in 11mi of hiking.
Glad to see they seem to have a handle on it.

That sucks... Was this today?  Is the smoke affecting riding (breathing/etc)... I can't stand smoke?  Thinking about heading out there tomorrow?

Yup,  That was 8/15.  Pretty smokey near the top of the first climb if your ridding clockwise.  After you descend some it clears up

A campfire not being put out properly is a ruse... Tom was shredding Keyauweee so fast his tires overheated and burned up the trail!!

Good to see its being handled by the USFS. Lots of fires burning right now. Remember what Smokey Bear says...

Government has no reason to use common sense or be efficient as it pays no price for failure.

Rode URE today... man its bone dry there... some places is about 2-3 inch of powdered dirt... ground just breaks apart with any force... I washed out on the edge of the trail.. was probably about 8 inches away from the edge and as I pumped through the ground just gave way.  be safe out there if foing at speed.  Those loose conditions took down two of us.  My brother also suffered a washout and may have possibly dislocated his thumb.  The vreekbed is now officially a rock garden.  That place needs rain bad!
