29" to 26" = lots of falls

So I've been riding my 29" hardtails exclusively for a few years now.  Yesterday I felt like my poor 26" full squishy was feeling neglected so I took her out of the stable and on  to BYT.  So I go down 3 times on the ride.  Twice the front tire got 'snubbed' on a climb and I went over the bars, and once I washed out turning too hard.  By the 2nd fall I was wondering what the heck was going on.  I know it had to be something to do with getting used to the 29er ride and geometry.

Curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I rode a 29 at LNSP demo day and found that a 29 turns a little slower than my 26. You must get use to the bike again after not riding it for some time. After I rode the 29 a little, I could ride it faster. Just my opinion.

I agree with Mike, 29ers do steer a bit slower but you can adjust for that by laying it down a bit more in turns.... And I will never go back to a 26er....All these folks who say 26er for life,,,, They haven't ridden the right 29er Cool

Are the suspension setups similar? Diff rebound/pressure/travel settings can have you sliding out everywhere... if you're nose diving into climbs and washing out the front sounds possibly like pressure to low or rebound too slow. Just a thought because I've experienced the same thing in switching bikes!

There are some benefits to 29 but they are not the answer for everything. I would defiantly prefer to thrash corners on a smaller wheel bike. Around here they are great but Ill keep the little wheels for the real trails

Yeah, I don't think they are the answer for everything..... They are just better overall..... And yes I've ridden them on "real?" trails.....

The 26er definitely felt much more 'flickable' after riding a 29er for so long, almost on the verge of being unstable.  It was still a fun ride for different reasons and I plan on keeping a 26er in the stable.  The bike is a Giant Anthem 2, FWIW, and I have two Trek 29" hardtails.  After thinking about it, I do think that a 29er spoils you a little bit on body position and weight transfer, but overall I think a 29er is a better choice for a bigger guy like me.

My 26 full squish is my BackYard bike.  I ride a 29 FS and Rigid all the time, but if I'm giong to BYT it's the 26 all the way.  The 26 is also my mountains bike.
