I heard a rumor that this has opened... can anyone confirm? I'm referring to the all-accessible path that runs along the entrance road.

The finishing touches are still being put on it.  Not technically "open" but people have started riding it.  We are currently gravelling it, though, so you're likely to encounter machines moving/spreading gravel and/or consecutive piles of gravel waiting to be spread.

Does this mean you can park at the Greenway and ride into WWC?  For free?

I was using the term greenway to describe the type of trail it is. I don't think there's any official "Greenway" being added. And there's certainly no additional parking.

As far as I know, it is permitted to ride a bike to the WWC without paying a fee... I know I have done so.

The USNWC provides some of the best tails around Charlotte. Riders have access to trails, parking with lights, clean bathrooms with showers, water fountains and much more for $40.00 a year. If it was $100.00 year it would still be a  good price.

I agree Big Chuck, and I do pay the fee. Was just pointing out that if you show up on a bike they don't ask for a parking fee. At least it used to be that way.

The trails, except for everything built since about 2010, were built by this club starting in the early 90's. Thanks to Lee and his crew for adding and maintaining the current system.

Lee,
I have been flying the trail the last couple of weeks since I have seen others on it. Would you like me to discontinue until cleared?

Others,

Glad it came down to this again...

I have a parking sticker, but I understand why some don't. If you want to ride in from Whitewater Middle, and the WWC is cool with that, live and let live man.

IMO, there are 2 trails to ride in the Charlotte Region.  USNWC and LNSP.  I love them both.  I frequent WWC because it is much closer.

I am hoping WWC does something with the new land aside from the Greenway Trail that runs along both sides of the parkway... After talking to many Mtn Bikers, this is not something we want to ride... we want to be underneath the trees.

That said... I think those new parkway trails are for runners...

No slam on Beatty, Sherman, or any of the others but when I think of best trails in the Charlotte region... gotta be LNSP and USNWC... Cool

Sorry Trekker…I didn’t know that had been addressed and cleared. Was it communicated on here that that was not frowned upon? If so I missed it and stand corrected.

Haha - nah, no worries bro. I was only kidding. I just know that whenever the WWC comes up, the parking fee isn't far behind...

I frequent the WWC because they now sell beer in the parking lot.  Who can argue with that one.   Smiley

The new greenway style trail, which is almost complete, is aimed at serving the absolute beginners who visit our facility.  It will clear some of the traffic on Lake Loop by giving those guests a less difficult place to ride.

We understand that the MTB community does not want to ride up and down the parkway.  It was not built primarily for our guests who are MTB enthusiasts, unless they're just looking for an easy couple miles.

As for singletrack expansion, trail building will continue at the quickest pace we can manage for the foreseeable future.  There's enough land to build trails for years and years, which we intend to do.  The summer is not the ideal time to build singletrack (as many of you know), so we've focused on the parkway trail this summer.  Now the summer is ending and we're almost done.  When the parkway trail is complete, we intend to shift focus to our next singletrack expansion.

Be patient and we will continue to add trail miles when and where we can until we run out of land to do so.

Really? When did this start? Is it like a ice cream truck for adults? That is awesome.

Thanks for the clarification Lee! This is good news for folks who aren't really MTBers and I suspect will be a boost for the WWC too. Especially if the path can be kept open more (since it's gravel I assume that will be the case). For little kids, gravel paths can be the first step toward trails.

As for the MTBers, judging by some of the responses here, it might be the go-to choice after downing several pints in the parking lot.  Roll Eyes

Beer  Cheesy point me in the direction........ I have not seen that yet.

As for the greenway, I like it. After blazing the east Main it is nice to spin my legs out before I go into the main trail and gives you more mileage. Plus you can see who in coming into the park to ride. it is fun to be cruzing along with your head down and passers by honk and wave

This is great to hear. It should open up biking opportunities for more people.

My SO would like to ride some with me, but she needs to build up some endurance before moving to the MTB trails -- even the Lake Loop would be a bit of challenge.

Thanks for the update.
