I don't wear knee pads.

Maybe I'll start.

Oh, and I forgot to lower my air pressure. Well, I didn't forget. I got lazy.

I was on about mile 5 of a 7 mile ride, and like a knucklehead had 50+ lbs. of road air pressure in my cross tires (no, not normally). My front tire bounced off a leaf covered rock/root at an inopportune time, the front tire kicked out and I landed in a small gully with a thud. ))

Didn't even have time to pull my feet out of the clips.

No damage done, other than what you see. I think my knee needed a pedicure anyway.  Smiley

Here's what led me to get them. Split open my knee replacement scar in a low speed tip over at Sherman. You can see the sutures from the previous surgery. Nice, eh?

Thanks for that. Just threw up in my mouth a little.

A kneecap to stem at speed was all it took for me to wear knee protection any time I get on my bike.  That was in the spring and my knee is still not the same shape as the other.  It's pointy like my elbow, along with a nice scar.

I did this exact same thing but pine straw back in May, needed stitches, didn't get them and I had a terrible 3 week staph infection. Go to an urgent care clinic.

Sherman Branch creek crossing last summer.  Now I never ride without my alpinestars.  They have paid for themselves many times over in preventing a repeat.

Good point. It was on a mixed use horse trail as well.

I showered, cleaned the heck out of it and doused it in Neosporin when I got home. Then dressed it. Everything is cool. It's superficial.

I hate spending three hours trying to get 10 minutes worth of treatment. Or going down there and finding out they don't have any openings, for urgent care, until tomorrow. If you're lucky.  Tongue

I didn't hit my head. Yes, of course I was wearing a helmet.   Wink

This is why I carry supplemental insurance, if they only knew me they would not have written me a policy for as cheap as they did... I'm pretty sure if I went to the Dr when I should I would make money off that policy!

Update. The neosporin cream wasn't working so well.

It made a mess and kept the wound too moist.

I always keep some generic providone iodine around, for these kinds of things. It's the best stuff to use. After cleaning, squirt it on or use a cotton ball. It knocks the nasties out. Just beware, it stains everything.

In six hours the wound was visually much better and no signs of redness.

Now it's almost healed, scabbed over and the itch is going away. If you want to minimize scarring, get a container of Waxelene at CVS or Amazon, etc. and apply daily after the scab forms.

Of course if your wound looks like Shredder's, go the doctor. Quickly. )
