Bah....  traffic, daylight and darkness conspired against us again today.  we were able to hit about 2.5 miles but had to walk out the rest...

What gives...  every other trail in the greater Charlotte area is open.

You guys need to figure out how to selectively close certain trails that are susceptible to holding water or better yet fix them so they don't hold water.

Please open the trails

To be fair. I road it and there are still several large trees down and signs there were many more. Thread trail seems blocked by one and they had to cut a reroute and toilet bowl has a couple you must dismount for.  Trail is perfect otherwise

The club has nothing to do with the trails at the WWC. The link is there as a service to the riding public. You might want to call them and ask.

Awesome! What trail would you like to volunteer to work on to achieve that?

Amen...Thanks for all of the hard work that they do at the WWC to clean up after the rain and storms to give us a great place to ride.

If you don't like how long a trail is closed...please volunteer to help do the difficult work to clear a trail after a storm, and do all the drain digging prior to the storms.  There is also the option to build your own trail from the bottom up that you can ride into a sloppy mud hole after a week long thunderstorm.

We don't have anything to do with the trails at the USNWC.  And even if we did we still wouldn't "magically" be able to change the soil composition that's been there for millions of years.  I did read somewhere that Poston's always open.

And yes, we'd love to have you volunteer for a trail work day or more. Smiley

Please enlighten us to how that works.  Would have saved me 8 hours of trail work last week if I just called you and had you ride a few laps on your unicorn...

Okay, so maybe his logic was a little flawed. But c'mon - everybody did kind of pile on Chosen One for expressing a sentiment that we have all felt at one time or another. The simple fact is that the WWC tends to remain closed longer than other local trails. I'm not saying the reasons behind the prolonged closures aren't valid, and I really believe that they've actually gotten a lot better about opening the trails up in a more timely and consistent fashion following rain, but if you buy an annual parking pass and you want to feel like you "used it" - the closures get frustrating.

Remember a few years ago when they posted a picture of doing a hike-a-bike over a small puddle the size of a baseball at the WWC? The caption was something like "found out why the trails have been closed all month" or something to that effect? Sigh. Good times. Good times.  Wink

But the new management out there seems cool. I think that's why we've all changed the direction of the dialogue.

The trail was open yesterday and in very good shape.  No real sign of any wetness.  They have Figure 8 closed, which is an expansion of the closure of the section with the intersection of the Thread Trail that was closed last week.  I wish we had an idea of what was going on there as Figure 8 seemed fine when I rode what could be ridden last week.  The work by the Thread Trail and the reroute away from it is somewhat concerning besides the lost of 7-8 miles of trail when Figure 8 is closed.

I am also a bit puzzled why the tree blocking the rocky drop on toilet bowl hasn't been cleared in over a week.  It's not overly large, but is in a very dangerous place.  I've slipped twice trying to climb over it with my bike.  Once landing on my butt on the rocks and once rolling my ankle.  Having to lift the bike over that tree while standing on a slippery rocky incline is not very safe.

I think they've done a pretty good job this year of keeping the trail open and despite comments otherwise, have selectively closed sections.  They have some of the largest and densest areas to cover and it seems the tree fall makes cleaning up after storms for them to be a fairly large task.

There's also a tree down on the old Goat Hill DH (left fork) right on the lander to the hipish jump (one of the best jumps out there!). It's not huge but I couldn't move it and it's about 2ft in the air so not rideable.... well maybe you could jump it if you were flying (there's a challenge!)
