I rode it Saturday. I was just too curious. They made a new route before coming to the thread trail. You turn left a little earlier now. Kind of bummed on that. I loved the sketchy left hander that was there at the entrance to the thread trail with all the roots before and tiny little drop. I assume there is a new entrance to the thread trail around there to the righ but I missed it. There seemed to be a new trail coming in from up top, from the right near the beginning. Could have already been there as an entrance from the white water area. Also, it looked like they were about to dig in some large metal anchors for something. Another ropes course?

When they first cut it in, the new line looked temporary to me.  I would assume whatever they are building near the entrance to the thread trail will be connected to on the old line.  I'm hoping the new line goes away when they are done.

They must be installing a booth to collect parking fees.

Hopefully it will go up to about $200 a year to cut down on the “riff raff”. LOL

I spoke with one of the park guys yesterday, told him that if we didn't find out what was going on the mountain bike community was sure to invent something like they have big foot captured out there....

I didn't get into the details of what they were building as I was more interested in how long the trail would be closed.  Anyhow, they are indeed doing construction and part of the construction goes directly in the middle of the trail (in addition to this they felt it was unsafe to have heavy equipment out there while people are riding - I agree 100%).  They are planning on rerouting the trail and then adding more trail (the guy made it sound like it would be a lot more).

He stated that it would be closer to a few months (vs a few weeks) before it will open back up.

I really enjoyed the thread trail; but lets face it - it was only able to be ridden 1/2 the time/way in the winter due to the mud.

I agree that it will eventually be too muddy for the Thread Trail, but that time is not now.  I would say we have several weeks to a couple months of decent weather so this is very disappointing.  I don't personally think it's a good business decision to close significant parts of your value proposition for "months."  I think that is pretty bad customer service.  If I were building I would try to build in such a way that I don't break some existing feature that people have grown to expect.  Just my opinion.

Unfortunately that's the way it works with entertainment; there is no real need for customer service - as upsetting as it is we will all continue to ride there.

Still plenty of trail for $40 a yr.  A pretty good value I think.... Isn't that less than 18 holes of golf?

Thread trail is not closed, only the access from the WWC. You can still ride it from the road, it's not on WWC property.

Would you be happy if a golf course shut down 3 holes for renovations?  Playing a 15 hole course isn't quite as interesting.

I realize the thread trail can still be ridden, but having the thread trail connected to the wwc system increases the value proposition for the wwc.  Not many will go ride the thread trail just to ride the thread trail.  People will still ride the wwc even though it's only 17 now, but two laps at Sherman, Rocky River and maybe even Anne Springs sounds better to me now.

Whether they would like to claim the thread trail or not, it seems crazy to me to close 100 feet of trail that prevents access to an additional 7 miles, especially when that 7 miles makes you a destination.

Well you have to look at it from their perspective.  I think the key is that they shut it down temporarily for public safety.  I for one can't be mad at them for this as one huge reason I ride in the woods is to avoid a 5000+ lb thing from hitting me.  Sure I've had trees grab or jump out in front of me Cheesy, but they only do that once in awhile.  Considering they did have a reroute in place; I can only assume they still had issues with riders not obeying it and being in the same area as heavy equipment.

One can argue that they didn't have to put the addition in the middle of the trail but maybe they did to make it work (only them and bigfoot know).  They have stuff that never gets used (the obstacles out at E Main for instance); maybe they are putting it there for easier access since most people stick to that area.

In a nutshell, yes it sucks as I pretty much road that area every time I went.. but at least we will get it and additional trail back in a few months.

Does anyone know if you ride in on thread if you can get to North or if its blocked?  I'm guessing if you can ride thread in you can probably ride back out to thread via the gravel road in the overflow lot.

If said golf course was continuously improving their track and adding new holes with plans for more, I couldn't be mad at 'em.

My point is, they chose to do this work in this specific spot.  You can't move a stream or any otherwise act of god that may cause a closure.  That's one thing.  Choosing to put whatever it is they are putting in this 100 foot stretch of trail, unless proven otherwise, seems like a choice they are making, which I think could be and should have been planned differently.

I am sure it's a choice that they are making and I'm also sure it's the choice that will make the most sense from a financial and ROI for them; regardless if it upsets the MTB community.

On a side note; its awesome to have an internet discussion that's actually friendly... might have to send it to Ripley's.
