So I was in a bike shop over the weekend and and saw what I first thought was a 29in wheel but come to find out it was a 27in with a 3in tire...not a full blown fattie tire but alot more sidewall than I was used to seeing.....also the front fork was wider, Im assuming to fit the width of the tire.  The guy at the shop said its the same height as a 29in tire...so the ratio would be the same.

Is this the new thing to come from all the manufactures?

I'm assuming what you are referring to is the 27.5+. It is the mid point between standard tires and fat tires. I don't believe this will be the new norm just a new innovation.

So far, I've found 40 different 27.5+ hardtail models being released for 2016.  Brands include Marin, Haro, Charge, Airborne, Fuji, Norco, Mongoose, Orbea, Specialized, Cannondale, Scott, Felt, KHS, Bianchi, RSD, Advocate, and Jamis (and Cotic, if you happened to be in the U.K.).

EDIT: And that's just the hardtails.  There are tons of FS 27.5+ models as well - notably the Salsa Pony Rustler, Rocky Mountain Sherpa, and Scott Genius Plus.

I personally think a FS 27.5+ would be a blast to ride, but then again ive been out of the mtb game for a little while.

I was thinking that Specialized has a 27.5+ on the stumpy but I could be wrong. It may just be the fat tire

It's an option - you can get the standard tire model still, but if you choose the 6Fattie variant it will have 27.5+ on the stumpjumper.

Looks like a good kit spec for $3500.
