I received a letter from Uwharrie National Forest which reads
"Dear Uwharrie National Forest User:
The Uwharrie National Forest is proposing to construct 1.1 miles of new mountain bike trail in the Wood Run recreation area. This new trail would tie in with the existing Wood Run Trail(TR396) from the southern end of the current trail to Hwy 24/27 trailhead. The trail would average 3 feet in width. Construction includes one stream crossing with culvert, benched trail segments, tread surface armoring, and new signs. The project area is approximately 10 miles west of Troy in Montgomery County, /north Carolina. See attached map for project location.
The Uwharrie National Forest has identified this action in order to take the current bike traffic off the main road and into a trail in order to improve rider safety. This would allow riders to directly access the trail system from the trailhead parking area and not have to travel the road. There is concern over bike/car collisions on the road and a need to separate use.
If you have comments, questions, or concerns regarding the proposed action, you should send your replies by November 25th to:
