Badin Lake Trail Map

I was off roading this weekend at Uwharrie and noticed on ten Badin Lake Trail Map there are several trails that intersect the OHV trails that are marked for mountain biking.  I was just curious if anyone had ridden there?

I saw that, but with almost 40 miles of trails out there they cant all suck.  I don't know maybe they do, only one way to find out I suppose.

Above is a link the full trail map, with the horse/hike/bike trails in blue.  I've actually ridden here a few time but it's been a while and I can't remember which single track trail I rode.  It's some tough sledding for sure, but I enjoyed it.

I remember hiking up the big rock garden on Daniel and bombing down that a few times.  That was fun!  Wink

Did you hike up the front side or the backside of Daniel?  I hadnt thought of that but that would be a blast.

Yea, I can't remember which side E or W right now we came in from, but we hiked/rode in and eventually ended up at the base of a rock slab.  Then we hiked up the hill from there to the top of a braided section of trail with lots of rocks and line options.  We sessioned it a few times them bombed back down water bars to the trail head.

I've also done the hiking tail descent from Hang Glider rock, it was fun too.

Somewhat off topic, but I've never understood why some park service people (not speaking of any in particular) get so petty about minor trail erosion for mtn bike trails, holding them up for studies and approvals, but don't seem to care about massive destruction caused by ATV's, 4WD vehicles, and horses. I own horses, but horses cause way more damage than mtn bikes. I've been on some of the 4WD trails at Uwharrie and it's near total destruction. I'm saying this while thinking in particular about the new trail at Wood Run several years ago that never got approval because the grade was too steep. In a thousand years of bike use, that trail would never look like the 4WD trails. There seems to be a double standard.

There is... There are double standards all over the place.... Most stem from insecurity and ignorance or a resistance to change due to fear... Or worst of all, power placed in the hands that represent the few...my 2cents...

I ride mtn bikes and go off-roading. There is no double standard. The OHV trails are very much on the USFS radar. I'm doing what I can in working with them to keep them open.  The local USFS office is great to work with.  A lot of the problem stems from irresponsible users.

The mtn biking community is better organized and has better etiquette.  I won't argue that.

Edit- to your point on trail building:

There is a difference or double standard between existing and new trails.  The ORV trails there now would never be approved if they were being considered today.  They are still in use because they already exist but closure is a constant threat.
