Attempted theft of my 1-UP bike rack

Print Post
So today someone tried to steal my nice 1-Up Bike Rack.  I had taken the rack off my vehicle to load some boxes onto my truck and laid it in the grass next to my sidewalk.  Since I was only going to be gone for a few minutes and was in a hurry I left it there long with the wooden 2x4 I use to separate my truckbed.  I come back from my errand and the rack is gone.  I looked around and noticed fresh lawn mower tire marks on my neighbors lawn.  She had her lawn mowed today and I asked if she could call the company. (Missed my calling as a Detective I think)

Much to my surprise the company admitted that the crew took the bike rack. So I then called them and the lady told me that their crew thought it was trash and that it was laying in the road.  I explained to her that the funny thing is that the piece of wood (that in fact does look like a piece of trash) that was laying right next to the rack was still right where I had left it..  The bike rack is supposed to be returned tomorrow.  For their sake I hope it does.

Granted I do share some of the blame for being lazy, but still it pisses me off.

That sucks but glad to hear you may get it back.  I've gotten to the point that I trust no one which is sad.  Too many people that would take advantage of your situation.

Sad thing is they were more than likely only taking it to sell it as recycled salvage at WYSE!  Tongue

Maybe I am being optimistic and too trusting but honestly it doesn't sound to me like anyone was trying to steal it. It sounds like a misunderstanding to me. If they were trying to steal it why on earth would they have turned it in to the management of the mowing company?

Anyway glad you are getting it back.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

Yup it's useless without the key.  That solid chunk of aluminum would have brought in a pretty penny.

I'm going to agree... People leave stuff out on the curb all the time...I bet they just thought it was up for grabs...

I would have believed that if that was their story.  But they claimed that it was in the roadway.

They might have claimed it was in the roadway after the fact because they were afraid they'd be accused of stealing...

I'm not sure what happened, but I tend to believe that if they thought they were stealing it, it'd be stolen and you wouldn't be getting it back - the story would have been "Bike rack? What's a bike rack? We never saw a bike rack..."

You did get it back right?

I would be pissed too. If it was a trash or maybe moving company I MIGHT could see it as a misunderstanding.....but a lawn care business? Since when do they do nice things for people that aren't paying them and help clean up the streets(assuming they say it WAS in the street, not on your lawn)?

If it's sitting on the side of the road it's fair game in my book.
