Goat Hill Question

So I finally got the motivation to climb Goat Hill, but when I got to the top I was a bit confused. I finally took a sharp left onto the downhill that comes out right at the initial climb, but I could tell I was entering it wrong...

I had two other choices - Fire road right (into nowhere), fire road left (downhill, then a loooong climb). Is fire road left the "gas line" climb?

Take a right up the fire road and then a right at the top.

Okay so - just to clarify (because I ran into a guy with a WWC jersey on S. Main and he said to go left at the fireroad and that to go right is to do just half of Goat Hill). I'm in the "main' part of goat hill, having come into the woods where it intersects with S. Main, I go through all the climbs and switchbacks in the woods, then I get to the top of the hill and emerge on a fire road with three main choices (1. Go left on the fireroad 2. Go "hard left" and take a downhill that runs over the top of where I came in at the bottom and puts me back on S. Main 3. Go right). So - go right on the fireroad and then take another right when I hit the top?

Sorry - but with all the leaves down and no signage it was hard to see. The option I took didn't have the leaves removed and didn't appear to be ridden... much...)

Once you get to the top of the initial climb there are three options.

A hard right will bring you back down to south main toward the entrance of goat and weigh station/toilet bowl.

Strait will take you out to south main near slalom, skipping weigh station/toilet.

A hard left will take you back down sort of the way you came up, to the bottom of the "gas line" which is essentially a fire road climb back to where you make the choice to go left/right/strait.

Before we (THTB) built Goat Hill we used to bomb down that fire road and make a hard left into the main trail at the original entrance.  The one that would make you pucker when you went down it, not the way it is now. Smiley

You went too far. Before you exit the trees at the fire road there is a single track intersection: right finishes Goat, left takes you to the bottom of the fire road and you climb that (gas pipe) to re-enter the trees and take the single track back down to finish Goat. Going straight out of the trees at the top of Goat is a short cut out.
