Sherman PUMP/FLOW/JUMP Line?

Just curious if there's ever been any thoughts about making the bailout/service trail/rd down the main loop into a nice long fast PUMP/FLOW/JUMP line to add a little flavor to Sherman to mix up the riding as well as the fun factor?  When I want to change up sherman's normal flow I will sometimes opt to ride lake loop first and doing so have come to really enjoy being able to blast down the bail out rd.  The Berms were a great addition to sherman and I thought it could be fun to have the bail out trail have some interesting features making for an interesting mix to the trail.  Not sure what Parks and Rec rules are about that bailout but just a wanted to see what folks and TC's have thought?

Obviously with caution to other riders coming off the main trail I've been often at sherman with the parking lot full and hardly ever run into a person "surprisingly" enough so even then it would seem fairly safe albeit intersecting traffic.

Isn't this the same path used for vehicles/machinery to access the trail? Think adding features to it would be a problem.

I'm just guessing but I would think that road's primary purpose is access for machinery and emergency personnel so adding anything would be a problem.  Interesting idea though.

I think adding a couple optional tables on the straight line with three jumps would be great.   Having a line that intersects the current flow probably is not a good idea.

That is my understanding also... but the features don't necessarily have to be "ON" the main tread of trail.  Berms/rollers/jumps on the edge.  The main tread of the path can be kept as is.  Either way, it will probably still be the best/longest run at sherman to grab a lot of speed for some fun while I shortcut to lake loop.  There's already little natural kickers here and there along that path so it's still fun.

Regarding intersecting traffic... if you aren't looking ahead and scanning on high speed runs (or if on the main trail) then you probably don't have any business riding such said type of trail.  There are "MANY" high speed run's in the mountains where traffic is multi-use, bidrectional and even intersecting and I've never seen/been involved with any accidents.  Not saying it doesn't or couldn't happen.  Just saying that you'd have to be seriously neglecting your surroundings albeit I have seen some folks on the trails with their head down and only looking 5ft ahead of them pedaling as fast as they can.  That said, there's quite a lot of visibility on the main trail IMHO.  Anyhow, just wanted to to open up for discussion/thought.  I think it would be fun.

If you want a nice big 16 mile flow track.....to check out Lake James....aka Paddy's Creek trail, fastest and flow track in the area,  wish Charlotte area had a trail like this,  not a bad drive tho.

Sounds like a really great idea to me for adding some more variety to Sherman.  Maybe just build up a few decent jumps on the side of that "road" to see how folks like it, then develop more along the sides once folks see it isn't really going to be a problem.  By the way, does that Lake James flow trail have any jumps on it?

1)  The road is used for bringing tucks and equipment in for trail work and such (not just the TTB but the Meck. County too)

2)  The road itself is fall line and already has major erosion problems which are constantly trying to be addressed

3)  Sherman Branch was adopted as a Nature Preserve Last year grandfathering  the trail system in "as is"  .  Would be very very difficult to make major modifications to the trail at this point

If you want to help out at Sherman Get up with Enoch and help him get trail work done.  He is open to suggestions to those who help.

Lake James is like Lake Norman except half the size.  Might have a little bit more flow over all, but no real jumps.  If your good you might be able to double a few of the rollers.  Has a 2 foot wide bridge as the only black diamond option on the trail

Their are many other possible projects (at least 3) coming up on other properties that would better accommodate this type of trail.  We are working hard on making as much of it happen as possible.

YA CAN'T ALWAYS GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT BUT THERE ARE MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS NOW THAN AT MOST ANY PREVIOUS TIME. (if you try sometimes, ya get what'cha need!)

Want to build jump lines and more technical stuff? Want to help build a brand new trail? Interested in bigger trail systems just out of town (East and Southwest)? If you can help, there is lots to do.  Contact your local Trail coordinator, Mark, or better yet, come out to a meeting the first Thursday of the month.
