A word on Trail Safety.

Today while clearing a large tree across a trail there were several riders came through. All but one waited until I could shut down the chain saw. One fellow rode up and the first I was aware of him was when I saw a flash of his legs out of my peripheral vision as he was stepping over the tree while I was cutting, carrying his bike. It startled me but I got the blade break engaged and straightened up. I yelled at him over the saw to stay back whenever some one is running one of those things. I was not mad just startled and concerned that an adult rider would take a chance to save a couple seconds.
Please remember that a chainsaw is dangerous piece of equipment and accidents are not usually benign. The operator most likely is focused on the saw and material. He cannot hear anything over the saw.
There were several outcomes from such action, and thankfully this was the good one.
I try to have someone with me when running any power equipment where there is a chance of others being around but it is not always feasable to have help. This Thanksgiving morning was one of those times.

Thanks for reading this.

Agreed.  Better safe than sorry when it comes to chainsaws.  If the saw is on, wait till the operator acknowledges you and turns off the saw before approaching.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has ridden with us down many a trail.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing not to ride wet trails;
Every trail feature doesn't need a ride around;
Life isn’t always fair when it come to riding ability,
and a bad day on the trails is better than a good a good day at work.

Government has no reason to use common sense or be efficient as it pays no price for failure.
