Does anyone know what is going on with the 15-20 foot wide swath through the woods that has been cleared out at Beatty? It's about 500' past where the black loop comes back into the main loop.

Unless they're running a new one, no. The only sewer line that I know of out there runs more or less along the double track along the lake. This is definitely virgin forest. In the attached pic the clearing is approximately where the green line is. I'm not sure how far it goes in either direction off the trail.

I think there is a sewer line there that runs to the neighborhood.  That's the only reason I have seen them take out lines of forest like that is for the sewer lines.

From that pic it looks like they cleared where the ribbons were hanging it the trees just as you exited from the valley trail. I hope that is not going to be some kind of drain field from some new development going on.

I still haven't heard anything official yet but I got out there at lunch and poked around. Looks like development to me and if it goes as far as they flagged we will have to reroute some trail. It will be sad to see that big beautiful patch of woods go .  It will really change the feel of that section of the park .

I think you'll be able to work things out!  If we end up losing a bit of trail I think we have located somewhere we might be able to add it back and then some 😉

Any chance someone could mark this on the trail map for reference.  Are you saying it's after the end of the black diamond Loop but before the beginning of the dirt road option 1 connection?

When might plans begin to add new trail?  Are we still in planning phase or is this closer to shovel-ready?

Yes. Right after the black rejoins the main trail. All hypothetical at this point. I do have an area in mind where we could add some trail if granted the appropriate permissions.

Based on the meandering swath cut into the Woods and where it ends, this appears to be future residential development by the person that lives at the dead-end of Walker Rd.

This is the section to the right of the entrance (and exit) of the black diamond. The Homeowner has used it as a dumping ground for years.

Really sad to see this.

I don't think the person that has been doing that dumping and the landowner developing the piece of property are one in the same. The piece of property being developed is owned by two brothers.

Since the markings cross the bike path, does this mean that this portion of the path is on private property?  Or is this a sign of an easement that's going to be taken on the edge of Beatty park?

I'm guessing that there was a field survey, but when I went out to check the tape last weekend, I didn't find any evidence of marking stakes. (Admittedly, I didn't stop for more than a few seconds)

Yes, a short section of the green trail is on private property.  The pdf TINman attached above gives you a good idea of it. It's right past the entrance/exit to the black diamond section.

I went out and looked at the area on foot this afternoon. The developer really needs to clearly mark his property corners with pins so the clearing equipment stays out of the park. It does look as if they did a little clearing into the park. This is hard to tell as there are no visible stakes that I could find. I did see one nail through some flagging tape but thats not the same as a proper iron pin. I would really hate to see over clearing and damage to more of the trail than needs to be. Proper marking pins would also help the person planning the reroute to have a better feel of what is available to make the best trail out of the available property.
