Crashed at WWC

Print Post
I crashed hard at WWC and broke my hip about two weeks ago on Sunday the 13th.
There were four bikers 3 guys and 1 young lady who saw me and stayed with me until the EMTs arrived to take me out. They also helped guide the EMTs to where I was at.
Also there was a WWC employee who took my bike and made sure it was locked and secure until my wife could pick it up.
I do not know who they were or if they frequent this site, but if any of you do please let them know that I send them a big thank you and graditude for takiing time out of their day to stay with me. I've broken many bones over the years riding, but this is the first time I was unable to get out of the woods on my own. I was helpless.
Please pass this on if you know these folks.

THANK YOU

I broke my hip at Beatty at the end of May. The Providence Fire Department were the first responders and were to me in about 50 minutes or so via 911 - no one was on the trail that early (6:40 a.m.) and only one walker came by after the EMTs. I would have been hurting if I'd had to wait for someone to find me. Everyone should be ALWAYS carrying a phone in case of emergency! I never would have expected to need to be extracted from Beatty!

Hang in there wtacoma, the starting recovery can be tough but gets better daily. Do your PT religiously and don't stop after they "graduate" you. You may still need more work to get all your range of motion/ flexibility. I still have some restriction throwing my "good" leg over the bike - but smile every time I do - nice to be riding again.  Smiley

Wishing you a speedy recovery...crashing sucks.... Reading this thread restored my faith in humanity, I've been involved in several hobbiest communities and thus far the cycling community is the best hands down. There's just something about it that draws people of different back grounds, beliefs, religion or whatever together. If you have no luck here you might want to try posting on the CLT mountain bike Facebook page..

I generally ride with a Garmin GPS unit and track my rides.  I like to think that I can use the Garmin to provide approximate coordinates for my location when I call 911.

Hope you get to feeling better. Lucky it was at the WWC though. Mountain bikers are awesome people and it's standard procedure to ask people who appear to have had a mechanical or health issue if they are okay when you witness someone off the bike/trail. But some trails might only see a few riders a day - or a rider every few days. I was at Dark Mountain on a 100 degree day in July and realized that, if I crashed, it might be days before someone came along.

Of course, now, there's a serious risk of drowning out there...  Grin
