how soon do you ride after being sick?

On top of very little precious ride time due to the wet weather I got hit with a cold last week that I think I'm on the tail end of and looking forward to getting out on the trail.  Back in the day I used to run track and cross country and our coach pretty much preached to run all the time. "If you're heart is still beating you should be training".  I know there are times when it just doesn't make sense to stress your body more, but on the other hand there are times that a good workout or a solid sweat can really detox the body and help it shake off the sickness.

My question is, when do you guys decide to get back on the bike after fighting a cold?  Factor in if we're talking about riding for fun, riding for exercise or riding for training for a race.

Thanks,

Dave

I ride for fun and exercise, in that order.  If I'm still feeling crappy, then it's not fun, so I don't bother. Not a fan of hacking my way through intense cardio on the bike.  I'll hit the gym when I've got a cold or other basic illness because it's easier to bail if I'm getting too drained. It still gets my blood pumping and seems to aid in speeding my recovery.

Rule of thumb:
Below the neck; rest
Above the neck; do what you feel.

To be honest, as soon as I start feeling lousy I hit the trails or the gym - hard. 9/10 you can sweat it out and wake up feeling better.

If it's too late for that, I'd say ASAP if the weather is good or wait until you feel better in weather like this.

I'm the type to get out and do whatever regardless, one because I am the restless type but two because sitting around just makes me feel worse.

This is pretty close to my line of thought, normally at the first sign of a cold I try to sweat it out.  This time I got hit with something I've never had before where my cold came with a sinus infection induced tooth ache.  wtf?  I thought I needed a root canal and actually had an appointment made and then it went away, point being though when the cold was just setting in I had a horrible tooth ache which I couldn't imagine taking bumps on the trail.

Unless I can slip away early Friday morning to ride, I won't have a chance until the weekend and of course there's a call for rain on Friday!!!!  You're killing me clouds!  Killing me.

I don't stop when I'm sick... unless I'm bedridden   I may not be as fast or enjoy the ride quite as much but it seems to help me get over the cold.

I picked up some bug last Monday... I rode WWC Sat and Sun..  I would have ridden sooner if they were open.

I'll ride or hit a ridiculous cardio workout on the rower when I am sick. Its almost like an instant cure. Especially if its a head cold.

I was just getting over a cold the end of last week and went riding Friday and Saturday.  Felt a little crappy when I started but I think I pedaled it out of my system  Smiley
