Ok all you old school hoarders... (like myself)

Im looking to rebuild an old high end bike that has been sitting unused for far too long.  On it was a:

Answer Manitou Mach 5 Pro XC with Posi-link

Front fork that has siezed up.  I would like to rebuild this one, so please look back in your archives to see if you have such an animal...

Thanks!

I'm sure the grease just dried up and it's stuck. I'm guessing you could rebuild it pretty easily back to spec.

That's what I was thinking too, but just thinking ahead, assuming I would probably need some spare parts in doing so.

It actually came apart really easy...  I think in the cold garage is the only thing that restricted it from moving originally.  Now in the warm house its free and still see normal lube.

The elastomers are little bricks though.  Think they may be dead.

1. Any suggestion on what type of lube should be in there to not damage the elastomers to try and loosen it up?
2. Any local LBSs have elastomers anymore? (or am I online bound?)

(looking online now for an old service manual)

Edit: I found this, but my elastomers are way shorter..  probably need new...

Thats the model.  Im sure the pic isnt going to represent 100%, but here is the actual pic for any local options.

6 elastomers, 5 spacers > ~5 3/4" in length:

Most likely any fork of that age that you find or even old stock elastomer will be aged to where they will not ride well. I have seen one or two vintage bikes in my days at MOMBAT

Very true point.  You would think that elastomers should be sold in "bulk stock" for this.

What I mean is you would think you could buy a 24" rod of a certain resistance and cut it into appropriate lengths for use...

Prime example of why mine had 6 and 5 spacers, and the other one pictured of the supposedly same model had 3 and 2 spacers.

You would think there is a pretty good market for that.  (even if elastomer forks are "vintage") ;]  (Still a need to rebuild and make useful.)
