Great idea.

I liked this quote;

"The encounters were somewhat intimidating, as the Marines wore flight suits and toted weapons."

it kind of reminds me of back in the day when myself, chubbsy, Jack Moore and a NC Park Ranger who will remain unnamed to protect his identity, were night riding what were previously illegal trails on Mecklenburg County property off Tyvola Rd aproximately 15 years ago. While riding all of a sudden out of nowhere comes a police helicopter with its spotlight all over us. while we tried to scatter and hide like coach roaches however there was no hiding from the spotlight and what i expect was infrared. We all seperated and as i tried to exit the BYT near Marion Diehl center i came across 2 police officers. When i asked them what was going on (trying to play it cool) they let me know they were looking for a young girl that was reported missing...When we all regrouped at our staging area we had a good laugh at how we thought the folks in the helicopter were probably laughing at us, especially knowing that when Jack was hiding behind trees he was actually broader than most the trunks he was hiding behind.

I'm curious what will happen to all the bikes they seized.  Government auction?  Can the owners re-claim them?  It would sure suck to lose your high end bike, but I'm guessing they knew they weren't supposed to be there, so it's a chance they took.

They get their bikes back after paying the tickets.
Where I rode in Hawaii we would come across military personnel all the time. We stopped once for a safety meeting deep in the Jungle and were finishing up when we noticed a 50 cal machine gun nest about 10 yards away. Manned by 3-4 infantrymen who were pretty envious judging from their comments as we rode off!

What would happen if the rangers took your bike from when they catch you riding a closed trail at the park? It could happen if the same rules apply that also happens if you are arrested for hunting out of season. They take your gun and vehicle till after trial is over. Just a thought!
